How to SET autoatis?

Featured Replies

HiI've been investigating the AUTOATIS function that I have seen lately, preferably when I've been flying in North America. I understand how you can retrieve the ATIS message both as a controller and as a pilot. Mainly through the very good explanation given by Ian Elchitz in this forum. But how do you, as a controller, actually set/record/initialize this AUTOATIS message??? It doesn't say in any of the PC mannuals I've looked in. Nor anything on this forum. A serch on the Net gives zip. Somebody must know how to do this! You, wherever you are, would you care to enlighten me? ;-)Confused regards :-hmmm

One of the beauties of the AUTOATIS system is that the controller doesn't have to do anything to configure it! There is an airport rule file that is created by a representative of the ARTCC/FIR that is responsible for each airport that has an AUTOATIS. As I understand it, the AUTOATIS system will read the METAR for an airport, apply the winds in the METAR against the rules set up for it in order to select a runway, and then generate the AUTOATIS message that you see. Pretty slick, actually.Mike Bromley

Hey that is pretty cool! :-)You say that the responsible representative sets up a rule file for for each airport that has AUTOATIS. No probs with that. But this raises another question. Is this an add-on is it a hidden feature in PC? Or to put it frankly. How do I get AUTOATIS to my airport? :-)Regards

I've actually wondered for a while too how you can add an airport to it - KPHX is our only airport with it right now, but I'd like to have it for KTUS, KABQ, and KELP at least...Is this accessable to ARTCC staff anywhere?Ryan

No, you have no access to set it. You have to work through a representative to get it added. In the US, that's Jeff Turner. I don't know who it is in Europe.cz
