January 4, 200521 yr I've updated the AIRAC and SID/STAR/IAP files for my PMDG 737 800/900. Assuming I've done this correctly, I've noticed that some of the SIDs are missing (LAXX5 at KLAX for example). If I get a clearance to depart via LAXX5 SID, do I try to approximate the departure by programming it in the FMC?Not really sure how to proceed when the SID you're cleared for isn't in the FMC database. Thanks in advance.Slugger
January 4, 200521 yr Hei "Slugger",>Not really sure how to proceed when the SID you're cleared for>isn't in the FMC database.>>Thanks in advance.>SluggerThere is more about flying than just letting the autopilot do something. You should never rely on automatisms only. To conduct good airmanship you should have the SID chart at hand (either printed or on a seconday screen) and you should be able to fly the SID by hand, or with manual programming of the FMC.Yours,Martin Georg/EDDFVACC-SAG PR & Events Coordinator *** mailto:[email protected]http://online.vatsimindicators.net/811874/21.png Cheers, Martin Georg/EDDF Contributing editor, FS-Magazin
January 4, 200521 yr Author Thanks for your prompt reply. As always, I enjoy your posts.Learning the skill to hand-fly these SIDS, plus all the other skills you need to be successful, is what makes flightsimming such a wonderful experience. I'm having a ball learning all this stuff. Thanks again Martin.slugger
January 4, 200521 yr And even if the automation does know the procedure (meaning, it's in the database), you always always ALWAYS verify it against the chart. At least in the real world, that's what we do. Seems like a good habit for the sim world too...
January 11, 200521 yr Especially the LOOP4 departure from KLAX (which is the alternitave to LAXX5 incidently) as sometimes the aircraft will tend to turn right to the LAX vor after the outbound at 250 heading, when the procedure states left turn only (this is because it's quicker to turn right than left from 250)This page http://naco.faa.gov/index.asp?xml=naco/online/d_tppis most usefull, it has all up to date charts for the entire US.
