Calibration Go Flight TQ 6 Throttle Quadrant

Featured Replies

>Just bought the GoFlight P8 today. Have to try it yet!...It was seriously only trial and error. My g/f throttles are still out of sync. Sometimes only a quarter of an inch through the travel, but never in unison. What truobles me more .....is every time I load Fs2004 the values change.Flyerian

Ive been reading these posts concerning the problems with the GoFlight TQ6 throttle quadrant. Everything seems rather familiar to me since I went through the same scenarios.Okay, guys.....here's the point. There seems like there's a lot of grousing and moaning going on in here about GoFlight's product(s), especially the TQ6 throttle quadrant. I also have a right to do the same since I had problems with it as well. However, I got off of my duff and did something about it. I called and e-mailed GoFlight about the problems I was having. Their tech guy (Doyle Nickless) isn't usually available at that number, but he was nice enough to call me back and he was very, very helpful. He sent me a file to take care of the calibration problem and this was before the version 1.31 of their software became available on their website. It took care of the problem....lickity-split. Also, even with the new software, a lot of you are probably not aware of the conflicts that FS2004 has in their assignments menu that might be causing you some headaches. See below.Look......GoFlight probably isn't going to be aware of and be won't be able to help you with the problems you are having unless you contact them. After all, they do have a toll-free number on their website. Sure, it's for orders, but they will discuss product problems that you're having on that toll-free number. I have no complaints about this company and their products. They've treated me squarely and their support is marvelous. My system works perfectly because I worked at it to get it there by working with the GoFlight people about the problems I was having. Now, another thing about the TQ6 and the calibration problems, as I alluded to above. Are any of you aware of the fact that you have to go into the FS2004 joystick "assignments" menu as well as the "assignmentaxis" menu and delete any of the assignments that might possibly have a conflict with the throttle function, or any other function on a GoFlight module? Sure, the GoFlight software is supposed to negate any functions in FS2004 that it takes over, but I have found a few things that still linger and tend to cause a conflict. For example, the landing gear was acting up the other day. I'd pull the landing gear lever down and the gear wouldn't come down. I went to the "assignments" menu and found that one of my controllers (on it's own....don't ask me how) all of a sudden had adopted a gear up/down function and it was conflicting with the GoFlight landing gear module and not allowing it to function properly. I deleted the offending assignment and the gear worked perfectly after that. The same holds true for the TQ6 throttle. Get rid of any offending assignment in the assignment window (including assignments shown for the TQ6 throttle). I did and my system works fine. By the way, this wasn't a tip from GoFlight....I found this out on my own by a little logical deduction. It's worth a try folks. Who knows, you might get your GoFlight problems solved and get back to enjoying our great hobby.

HI Drifter! (or what's your name...)I just returned from the movie Lord of the Rings and still dwelmed... However I noticed your post.Indeed you are right, in these and other forums you often see people dissapointed in hardware and software companies without trying to contact them or to sort it out with patience. That is a fact of live I believe sometimes. Luckfully I have over 5 years of Flightsim experience and learned how to be patience. You are never the only one and there is always someone who has the answer. In this case/topic I bought and installed the GoFlight TQ6 with much enthousiasm. When I noticed that the power of the plane was not correct I went directly to the manuals and the forums to browse for advice. I corrected the potentiometers. After that I contacted GoFlight and the company where I bought it to get more advice. I am/was convinced this would be moreless a MS Windows or FSCOF software problem. Together with the message notification of this forum I received also a note from Doyle containing a fix and a PDF file.In a few moments I will try that one. Thanks your input though!

The fix worked very much for me! ALthough I seem to have a loose contact on lever A (spoilers) and some strange behaviours on the reversers everything seems fine now... have to test a bit more.

Hello Ferry,I'm glad the fix worked for you. This is what happens when you work with the guys at GoFlight. They'll take care of you. The only thing I have to caution you about now is the new version of Peter Dowson's FSUIPC. I would think twice about upgrading to it. There's really a conflict between that new version and the GoFlight configuration software. I had to revert back to my previous version of FSUIPC (v3.02) by way of a Windows XP Pro restore and everything is working fine now on my throttle. I guess the old addage that my daddy kept hamming away at me about applies here:"If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!!!"Bobby

Getting back on topic again. I received a patch from GoFlight (Thanks Doyle!). This did the trick for me. The spoiler issue has been solved, it was something with the potentiometer. The only things that remain:- When pulling back the spoiler (moving up), the spoiler of PMDG is not going along. I have to use the keyboard shortcut.- When using the thrust reversers, the reversers enable and disable continuously and very quickly. I have no changes made in FSUIPC, nor did I change the FSCOF sensitivity and Null zones settings. I used the defaults which were supplied with TQ6. The patch is still in a testing phase. So most likely we will learn more.

I like what you have to say! However I would like to ask why do the settings change every time I start Fs9? I have cleared ALL conflicts in Fs9. AND it has not solved my question about the floppy (very loose)thrust reversers. Of course I could email Goflight BUT and as I said before - why don't they open a forum and last time I emailed them with a reasonable question it took for ever to receive a reply? Forgive me once again - I am not knocking GoFlight I have 16 of their units and all are working very well except-------Tantrum expiredFlyerian

> When using the thrust reversers, the reversers enable > and disable continuously and very quickly. Forgive me if this is so obvious that you already tried it but one thing I noticed with reversers is that a throttle setting from the mains will cancel them. So what I do is set my throttle range with FSUIPC so there is a dead zone at the very bottom. That dead zone needs to be large enough so that it works day by day, and througout a flight as the pots drift (its actually a very small dead range, but you'll get the idea). That way when you pull the throttle back and start reversing, your reversers don't get shut off by errant changes form the mains. Mind you GoFlight could fix this by not sending Mains commands when the reversers are engaged (and maybe they do, and maybe this isn't your problem at all). Of course if they did that you'ld need a dead range for the reversers, lest you find your power disapearing suddenly on takeoff. :( I'm assuming the reversers are pots, are they?Similarly I have a dead range at the very top of my throttles as well so that when I push them all the way forward I get 100%. Otherwise youll get like 95% some days, 98% other days, and well you get the idea.Throttles .. :) I should say throttle .. :) I've not gone the whole cockpit route yet .. the price scares me (maybe I'm too ambitious).

The tech at GoFlight, Doyle Nickless, sent me this link and the new .dll file cured my throttle problem. As for a forum at the GoFlight website, again communication with Doyle as informed me that there are plans to initiate one within a week or two. So, if we can all be a little patient, we can go directly to the source and discuss our various GoFlighthardware/software problems there. Hooray!Bobby

Hello everybody and thanx for all input. Sorry I have not replied for a while, pressure of work etc - yes, I installed the 1.31 update before Xmas and still have the problems I had before as mentioned. It is excellent news to hear that GoFlight are responding to customer quieries much more promptly, in the meantime -is there a fix I have overlooked?Flyerian

It's worked for me and it's worked for others.http://www.goflightinc.com/downloads/TQ6Cpl131b2.zipAlso, and I CAN'T EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH.....be sure to check in your FS controller assignments and controller axis assignments and physically delete anything out of there that may relate to your throttle. When I first got my throttle, even though the software was supposed to nullify any FS control over the device, there still was entries in the assignments dialog boxes. I finally deleted any related reference to any GoFlight hardware functions out of there and I've had no problems since (of course, including installing the above fix as well).Hope this helps. There's no reason why it shouldn't work.Bobby (that's my real name since you asked awhile back.....not Caldrifter)

Hi Bobby,Thanks for your input. Meanwhile I received version 3 of your link from GoFlight. Indeed the control assignments did also many very noticable bad things to the throttle. But if you read the manual you have to change this in de device.cfg before installing. Than you should not have a problem (which I hadn't).As said the only things is the 'choppy' thrust reverser. FSUIPC is not making it better at my site. I will update my config files on the Internet so you can have a look.Thanks...

Hi Tony,You can build one using slider pots a lot quicker and cheaper, and easier.Using rotory pots you need gears and then it turns into a real project that you might not really want get involved.I have been that route and found that the sliders work fantastic!cost? $1.96 ea at www.mouseelectonics.I fly RC aircraft so I used clevis's and threaded rod to connect from the throttle to the pot. Cost? $5.00 w/rodSome plywood, solder, termination block, joystick cable (not usb)and a couple of bolts/nylon lock nuts/nylon washers.I used some angle shelve brackets to mount my handles to and screwed them to the base.Using FUSPIC adjust throttle and reverse thrusters.I even mounted it inside my GoFlight console! Its the best one I made yet!while I'm waiting for my Simavionics 767 throttle. Its simple and effective...and you can add more if you wish.Good luck!james

James,That's GREAT!I used to fly R/C too, and it never occurred to me to use R/C hardware to connect to slider pots. That's an example of great inspiration!I'm waiting on my SimAvionics throttle too, but I'm sorely tempted by your design in the meantime. It could be assembled over a weekend, I imagine.Hmmm....
