Nice work... isn't that hand work?

  • Author

Hello Arthur,Thanks, and indeed it is made by hand. It is a lot of work to make them like this but it is very rewarding. Next step is to mount it in it's casing. But have to prepare the casing to mount all the electronics and wiring. The 7 segmented displays are already wired and ready to be placed. The panels also need the right color, they are now only sprayed with grey primer.Rob

Superb workLove the "double" knobs too!!

From what material is the panel made? Is it backlit? How are you going to add the letters/numbers?

The panels are made from clear lexan sheet. If you visit my website you can see that I changed the way I create my panels. The old method was that I used 3 layers: 1 layer of clear 3mm lexan sheet1 layer of clear 2mm acryl sheet1 layer of white 0.5mm ABS platic sheet (for the finishing touch). With the old method no backlighting was possible. With the new method I only use 2 layers of clear 3mm lexan sheet. The reason for not using 2mm acryl any more is that the acryl sheet cracks really easy and it melts to quick during processing. The third layer isn't needed any more because my workmanship has inproved quite a lot since I started working with these materials. And I can create perfect openings in lexan now.So with this method you could engrave the text after it is sprayed with the correct color for backlighting. I'm not sure what I will do because backlighting is not very high on my priority list. Maybe I'll use the same letters as on my cdu.As my MCP panel is build with the old method no backlighting will be possible, the 2 other panels (EFIS and EICAS) are build with the new method. All the panels of my overhead are created this way also. The most switches and knobs I have used are from 'Conrad Electronics' (also the double knobs) except for the AML's and the knobs for the rotaries on the MCP (they are from a local supplier). If you want I can try to see if I have the part numbers for you.Hope this answers your questions.Best, Rob

Hello, as we're talking about glare panels, what is the exact color under it ? You understand what i mean ? the side under, perpendicular to the MIP, approx 30-35 cm distance MIP / FRONT...Is it Black, as around the MIP, or blue/grey as the MIP ?Can't find a picture of it, i need this info for finishing my painting. Thanks

I forgot to say, it is for a 737 NG setup...Might be helpfull...Did not manage to get a shot on airliners.net where i could actually see the color of that part.Thanks.

Very slick! Hats off to you for handmade parts! The single piece glareshield mount is a very good idea.Roberthttp://777Simulator.comhttp://HSBRegistry.com

More progress has been made, so here are a number of new pictures. Next thing to do is to create the double rotaries for the EFIS panel (one rotary encoder for the inner knob and a rotary switch for the outer). And then the wiring of all the switches, etc.http://members1.chello.nl/~r.vanderwiele/F...GlarePanel4.gifhttp://members1.chello.nl/~r.vanderwiele/F...GlarePanel5.gifhttp://members1.chello.nl/~r.vanderwiele/F...GlarePanel6.gifhttp://members1.chello.nl/~r.vanderwiele/F...GlarePanel7.gifhttp://members1.chello.nl/~r.vanderwiele/F...GlarePanel8.gifhttp://members1.chello.nl/~r.vanderwiele/F...GlarePanel9.gifBoeing Cockpit Projecthttp://home.hccnet.nl/r.v.d.wiele/

speechless...

Excellent craftsmanship there, Rob. Very well done. I would guess from the appearance of this unit that you spent a fair amount of time in the planning (which I believe is a necessity - good foundation). :)

Hello George,I must say that I'm quite happy with the result so far.The housing of the unit is created from an old casing of a tower pc, I think it is of made of steel sheet. It gave me an headache how to cut it to the correct dimensions but it turned out well. The panels are from lexan and there is also some aluminium for strengthen the construction and for the attachment of the panels.Best, Rob
