November 29, 200520 yr Hi allI am about to start building a 737 sim. It will only be something basic and i am planning on using IO cards, however i am on a small budget and will be building everything.I think building an FMC would be beyond me but was wondering whether anyone uses a touch screen monitor for this purpose and wat the results are like, ive seen these on ebay for
December 4, 200520 yr Well no replies as yet. However judgeing by the sudden bids on the screens on ebay people are reading this. (I should have waited till i had won the auction before posting on here lol)If anyone uses one of these could they let us all know the results please.RegardsMike
December 4, 200520 yr MikeI looked into this a while ago.It is possible where only one monitor is plugged into one computer. So you may be able to do it with project magenta. You would need to display the FMC quite large to be able to hit the buttons properly.I have a multi monitor set up with three screens connected to one computer and was told by a retailer that you can't have one of the three as a touchscreen.I am also interested in peoples experiences of this.Richard Richard Ottey
December 4, 200520 yr Hi All,A friend of mine used it, but was absolutely unable to get it working as part of multiple screens on one pc.It seems that it can only be used as one screen with one pc.Hessel
December 4, 200520 yr Mike,I have a touchscreen perfectly working as a 2nd monitor inside FS2K4. The only problem is the drivers, as most touchscreen software will not work with a multi-monitor setup. The only ones that have it going is Elotouch (www.elotouch.com). They have a driver that enables you to jump from one monitor to the other during calibration. You can even have more than one touchscreen. I am using my touchscreen with a full set of Reality-XP GNSs and the XPNDR.Once in while they are availale at a reasonable price at e-bay.Alex http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/134930.jpg
December 5, 200520 yr It with Alex here on another forum who gave me the idea of a touchscreen.I initially tried it out on a 14" ELO CRT touchsceen (cost $80 on ebay). Then I found a new (open box item) of a 19" LCD ELO Touchscreen (on ebay for $700). I have that now.Having used a touch screen for a while. I like mixing tactile buttons and touchscreen. I dont like touchscreen for rotary switiches. So a combination or touchscreens and Rotarary button like Go flight seems to work best IMO.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 16, 200520 yr Manny, good to hear that you are satisfied with the solution. I am somewhat puzzled that the matter receives so few attention. I find it a perfect and rather unexpensive way to control complex instruments like GPSs or FMCs without spending thousands of $$. And the setup stays kind of generic meaning it is easy to adopt the cokcpit for another plane by simply doing a new panel. At one time I was even wondering if I should get rid of my GF units all along and buy an additional touchscreen.Alex
