PhidgetsUSA Good Replacement for IFS Photon?

Featured Replies

Curious if anyone has replaced their IFS Photon with a PhidgetsUSA system? This is now posted at the IFS site:June 18, 2006: It is with regret that we inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control, Integrated Flight Systems is ceasing operations (likely permanently) effective immediately. So I am once again looking for an interface system. Regards,Richard

Richard, if you haven't got an interface yet and you WANT Photon, you can probably buy mine in the future.I've got Photon here, I got PHCC and I got Hagstrom and I got IOcards and I have to say .. I absolutely adore IOcards. So my plan is to switch to nothing but IOcards once they got all the cards I need developed (USB-led and USB-lcd).

Hi Philippe,No, I surely don't need another one. I have used the Photon since it was first offered. I sure hate to see it go away. I is/was an excellent system. FSCockpit needed a few updates but overall I enjoy using it. However, without future support I will likely have to find another interface system.Regards,Richard

Why ?Cuz of software or cuz of hardware ?Software .. I got VB.Net codes.

At this point software. I have been waiting for the User Output section to be implemented. I want to assign offsets to LEDs for annunciators. Also, the User Input section is a litte difficult to work with. If I want to change an offset value I have to re-enter all the values since there is no edit feature. What do you mean by "I got VB.Net codes"?Richard

Meaning my software reads LED-status from FSUIPC and sets the leds acordingly. I use the "unused offsets". Then sends switch statusses to FSUIPC (in such a way that only toggle from 0 to 1 are send as a constant which toggles after the next switch toggle from 0 to 1 .. this to make switch & push button the same towards the software). Then with another software (SIOC) from IOcards I manage the FSUIPC offsets and I write all logic code in SIOC.

Another way of putting this (instead of using the words "brain-less") is to say you use are using two layers of software systems (or services): one as Master and one as Slave. Ofcourse you are using Opencockpits SIOC to fullfill the Master role ;-) Very wise indeed.Cheers!Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Exactly the reason why I purchased FSCockpit; one program which would do it all. Unfortunally, FSC never made it to the "do it all" stage. If there are no additional updates, it would be nice to see FSC as a freeware program. Then those interested could add what is missing. Regards,Richard

I believe that's the least Scott (I think?) can do for his customers. Put the source open on the web.If that doesn't happen, feel free to ask me a "brainless" software which can be used as Nico calls it "server". Then you are free to chose if you want to put your logic in SIOC or in any other home made software. If you want I could even code it such that any btn pushed is sent to the FSUIPC "joystick button" array. Then input would be seen as joystick buttons and can be given an action in FS (fsuipc menu). For leds I could make an other array which you can address then via other software.

Richard,Scott has kindly made me an offer regarding allowing me to continue Photon. However, emails from Scott are slow arriving, and there are quite a few things to be worked out with him before I take on Photon, especially for FS2004.Having said that though, I hope that I can offer a continuance for Photon sometime in the near future. I will post more when I have more.Peter.

Hi Peter,That's great news. I've sent you an email and private message.Regards,Richard
