October 12, 200619 yr You don't need to hack the PSP screen to use it in a CDU.You can still use the VideoIn jack and get the signal from the TVout of your VGA.IMHO it's much much easier to open and install a TFT screen than this heavy tv tube. Not to mention safety too. The CRT tubes have high voltage transformers that can interfere with almost everything and may be hazardous if not properly isolated/insulated.On the other hand the TFT is digital, working at 5V and much safer.Just my 0.02...George DorkofikisAthens, Hellashttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/811520/1704.png
October 12, 200619 yr Hi, I have one TV very similar and works fine in my CDU project. The conectors of audio and video are in the back of the TV.This is a cheap option but works!.regards
October 13, 200619 yr Hi George,>Not to mention safety too. The CRT tubes have high voltage>transformers that can interfere with almost everything and may>be hazardous if not properly isolated/insulated.5 Inch B/W tv's work at 9 V ... Of course it needs transformed to higher voltages in order to get a picture but the current (and power) involved is low and therefore not dangerous for human beings. (only for electronics, so still work with care!).Dismanteling such a BW TV is rather easy, I have done it myself and know of other people, without professional knowledge of electronics, having done the same. Personally I like the FMC image at the tv more then the look at a TFT(I have seen some). The big advantage of the TFT is it's size, of course.my 2 centsNicohttp://www.nicokaan.nl
October 14, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the replies Alberto and George.I would be interested to see photographs of your screens installed in your CDUs.I agree George that the PS solution has some benefits but the web pages I read dealing with extracting the TFT screen from its casing didn't encourage me. If I were to use the TV I would probably first try to use it without removing it from the case at all. One other factor - the TV from my local store is cheaper than ebay PSOne devices once shipping costs are added in, although once the overall cost of this hobby is considered..........:(--Bryn
October 18, 200619 yr Author For those of you who prefer TFTs, Maplin have just reduced the price of this 5 inch TFT TV with AV socket to
