Flight yokes/pedals

Featured Replies

Hello all,I am brand new to non-military flight simming, having just purchased FS 2002 Standard this past week. The joystick I'm using is the greatest and I've considered getting a yoke and rudder pedals. The ones I've found are the CH Products 19 function Flight Sim Yoke and Pro Rudder Pedals. I definitely want USB connectors, which these have. Are these a good choice for the price? I can't spend a fortune and I think I've found a pretty decent price on them. Are they fairly sturdy and dependable? Thanks for any advice.KP

Hi Ken,Without question, both the yoke and the pedals are a good purchase. I have not had any problem with the pedals in 6 months of daily use. Mechanically, the same is true of the yoke. The only problem that I have had is with the clamps that hold the yoke on my desk. Over time, the screws that are an integral part of the clamp have collected metal shavings, to the point where one of the screws is now completed fused to the receptacle and will not turn. I have circumvented this problem with a cheap C-clamp from the local hardware store. I think that alone speaks volumes about how much my CH products mean to me.

Thanks David. I may place an order for those items this weekend maybe. My old joystick isn't in too bad condition, but a flight yoke would have to beat it easily I'm sure. I'm just getting into FS, but I find myself wanting to spend more and more time on it every day. I really like this site, so I'm sure I'll be hanging around here quite a bit.KP

Carefull Ken, it's very addictive. And I suspect it's harder to quit this than it is to quit smoking (although I'm not the latter). Good luck on your endeavors. Feel free to ask any questions you want, there are many of us here who enjoy helping out others (partly because it's fun, partly because we learn even more in the process).

No doubt about the addictive part. I've really been getting interested in this over the last few days. I want to eventually get involved with a virtual airline, once I get a little more competent in the cockpit. I signed up for Vatsim, although I probably should have waited till I'm a little more experienced. I don't really know all I need to know about it yet. I haven't flown online yet, but want to soon. Right now I'm going through the private pilot training in the sim, just learning the basics. I'm sure this is something I will be interested in for a long time to come. Thanks!KP

Well, I took the big jump and ordered the yoke and pedals. I found them both priced at just under $100 each, so with shipping it's only gonna cost $206. I didn't think that was too bad really.KP

I received the yoke and pedals yesterday. I really like them, although it's a big adjustment from joystick flying.I have a problem with pedals and am going to exchange them though. The left pedal seems to be making contact at all times, causing the left brake to be on. So when I taxi, take off, land, etc, it's a challenge with the left brake engaged. If I press down hard with my foot on the bottom end of the pedal I can disengage it, but I don't really want to have to do that all the time. Maybe it was damaged in shipping or something.I called Cruxworks about it, and they volunteered to send a UPS pickup on it and exchange it. I have to say I have been very pleased with Cruxworks service up to this point.KP

Hi Ken,The stuck brake thing is usually just a matter of adjusting the sensitivity for the axis within FS itself. It's normally very close to being "On" anyway, and a little bit too much or too little sensitivity (I can't recall offhand which way it needs to go) can push it over the edge and leave the brake on a little bit even when the pedal is released.- BobThe StickWorkshttp://www.stickworks.com

Hi Bob,Thanks for the info. I'll try adjusting the sensitivity and see if that helps. I just figured that since I was able to disengage the brake by pressing down on the pedal extremely hard that it was defective and making improper contact. I'll try adjusting and see if that helps.KP

While we are on the subject I have a question. Do the CH Products Pro USB pedals work like real life where if you push in the right one the left one comes out and visa versa? If it does great, I'll be be getting them for sure, if not I think I'll reconsider the $100, although I am not sure of any alternatives that I could afford.Kyle
