Wow! That's impressive indeed. I will upgrade...eventually. Gotta save my pennies for a while.

So there I was, thinking how great it would be if I could tweak things just a little bit more to squeeze just a few more frames per second out of FSX and X-Plane. A little overclocking never hurt anyone, right? Yea... Made a little progress by upping the cpu clock speed, running my I7-920 up from 2.67 to 3.0 ghz. Was I satisfied at this point? Nope. Made a tiny adjustment on the memory voltage and now I got nothing. Can't even get to the post screen or bios. I'm hoping I can just swap out the ram and everything will work again, but if not I guess I'll be waiting until I can afford some replacement parts. Kicking myself, Ken

Dumb question...what is EVO?

I'm much the same way and find myself in FS9 much more than in FSX. I built my system in preparation for the release of FSX and found myself disappointed when the time came. Don't get me wrong, FSX has some very nice features and I do use it some, but not as much as FS9. I bought Active Sky Next and Rex Texture Direct when I started getting back into FS and they're great, but I'm wishing I had spent my money on Active Sky Evolution and Rex for FS9 instead. I'm currently using Active Sky 6.5 for FS9 and GE Pro. Ken

Thanks for the information! It's not really a problem, I just found it amusing. I took a 35 nm flight last night and it went very well, though I'll admit to not being impressed with the ATC. Not a real big deal though, but I do hope they'll make improvements to that part of the sim. I found the flight characteristics of the default 172 to be very good. I still need to optimize graphics for the best performance, but overall I'm very happy with X-Plane so far.

Both are excellent, thanks for the referral! Just took a quick test flight. Controls don't seem as difficult to configure as the UI would make it seem. I do have to laugh at the AI traffic and ATC a bit. My little hometown airport suddenly has tower controllers and 747's landing and taking off on the shortest of the two runways (about a 3500 foot rwy). The longest runway is only about a mile, so we don't see much (any) heavy traffic here IRL. Ken

Flew around just a little with Jan's KRSV (thank you again) and took a short sight-seeing hop around my hometown. I definitely enjoyed the flight and look forward to a lot more time in XP. I did notice the download real-world weather isn't especially accurate. It's pouring down rain here, but that didn't show up in XP after I selected the download weather option. Overall, I'm impressed and look forward to many hours in the XP cockpit.

Wow! 99gb! Sounds like a good choice, though, so I may have to work on that. Have to figure out setting up my CH yoke, pedals and throttle quadrant as well as figuring out how to use the software itself. Also, I thought there was an included scenery maker of some sort, but I haven't found it yet. I'd like to make scenery for my hometown airport. Ken

Hello all, I finally took the plunge. I bought XP just minutes before the sale on Steam ended. I've been an MSFS user since 2002, roughly and decided it was time to try something new. Not giving up MSFS as I've got way too much invested in it to just drop it, but I wanted to give XP a try as well. What attracted me more than anything were the fact that it's 64 bit and the realism I've heard so much about. So, get ready. I'm sure this XP noob will have plenty of questions. Ken

I made my first online flight with the PMDG 737-800 (for FS9) tonight. I have been working towards proficiency with this aircraft for a while now and I hadn't trusted myself to make an online flight with it till tonight. It turned out being a great flight, despite the lack of any ATC coverage in my area on VATSIM tonight. I had taken almost a week off from FS, which is a long time when trying to learn a new aircraft but most things came back to me pretty quickly. I started at KSTL and flew to KDCA. Programming the FMC went without any problems at all. Likewise, taxi, takeoff and cruise were great. I was apprehensive about the landing, given the difficulties I've had with getting landings just right. Not to worry, though. This one couldn't have gone any better. This was a very enjoyable flight and I look very forward to the next one.

I'm getting to the point I don't know where to post. One post I made in the FSX forum that was about something I did in FSX got moved to Hangar Chat. This post has nothing to do with FSX and it was moved to the FSX forum. Confused.
