September 28, 200223 yr I'm a bit confused on this matter.Lucky I haven't got my new card yet if this is true.
September 28, 200223 yr Nope. Won't make a difference :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
September 28, 200223 yr But I just read an article (forget where), about Nvidia releasing a "GForce4 Ti4200 with AGP 8X".This is what is confusing me, as I know 2X & 4X isonly to do with the MoBo.
September 28, 200223 yr Nvidia's NV30 chips due before the end of the year will be 8X AGP compatible.Bill
September 30, 200223 yr Here's that article........................NV18 and NV28 Launch NVIDIAPress ReleaseSeptember 25, 2002NVIDIA is launching the industries only top-to-bottom line-up of GPUs and platform processors for next-generation PC platforms. With the new GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP 8X, the new GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP 8X and the nForce2 core logic products, NVIDIA has the most robust AGP 8x product line up for the fall PC buying season.AGP 8X is a watershed event in the PC industry, doubling the graphics bandwidth of the AGP interface to 2.1 gigabytes per second. This will enable a new level of 3D gaming and graphics applications - keeping data hungry GPU's fed with information necessary to render high fidelity, real-time graphics. The doubled bandwidth will give significant performanceimprovements to today's flagship games and applications, which are bandwidth-intensive and need AGP 8X to move vertices, textures and other data quickly from system memory to frame buffer memory. AGP 8X signals the move to next-generation platforms with the power to run the many titles which are appearing that feature NVIDIA's Shader Technology and richly detailed textures. AGP 8x will give a much-needed shot in the arm to our industry. Our AGP 8X products are the most stable around, as NVIDIA has been working closely with Intel to ensure that we deliver the most complete and stable implementation of the new AGP 8X specification. As a result, Intel selected NVIDIA's GPUs to demonstrate AGP 8X at this year's Siggraph conference and for Intel's official Software Development Vehicle for AGP 8X...........................................Please note: "With the new GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP 8X, the new GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP 8X"So my question still holds. Are all current GForce4 cards "non" AGP 8X?
September 30, 200223 yr ALL current Nvidia GF4 Ti4200, 4000 & 4600s are AGP 4x Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
October 2, 200223 yr So the answer is "YES" then is it.Everyone will have to get a new Video card ifthey want AGP 8X.
October 2, 200223 yr Yes! However, you will also have to have a MOBO that supports X8, so save your pennys, pence, pesos, riels, rials, yuan, denero, etc. Bill Sieffert
October 6, 200223 yr I assume that the software will have to be written tospecifically support 8x I guess.I'm also assuming that there is now plenty of timefor FS2004 to support it.AGP 8x should be the norm by the time FS2004 comes aroundone would have to think.
October 7, 200223 yr ah, I see what you're getting at. You initial post wasn't terribly clear, so I didn't quite understand the question :) Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
