Hi there Shorthaul,I have just bought a HD4870, have not had the crashes you have been experiencing but I cannot seem to get VSYNC to work, always constant "tearing" of the screen and that is with the framelock set at 25fps.Does VSYNC work ok with you?

Hi John, I had previously setup my two existing 320GB Hard Drives on a RAID0 configuration but to be honest never noticed any real difference performance wise.I might just bite the bullet here and get a 1TB drive on 2 partitions for o/s and backup + a separate WD Velociraptor for FSX if my budget stretches that far :-)!

Thanks for your input guys! As per my sig I have 3 hard drives installed at present and couple that with the gfx card the case tends to generate a serious amount of heat.This is why I would prefer to just cut down to one large hard disk to ease the temperature and also maybe put in a new ATI HD4870 (or the X2 version upon release).As to partitioning I would prefer 3 seperate, one for o/s which is Vista Home Premium X64, other for flightsim and third for downloads, swap file, etc.

Hello, Just about to buy a Samsung Spintpoint F1 1Tb Hard disk, it has 3 platters of 334Gb approx each. My question is as this will be the only hard disk in my computer would it be wise to partition it or leave as one whole drive?If partition is recommended what would be the ideal split? I thought about 3 partitions of 334Gb, makes logical sense doesn't it?I welcome your expert opinions :-beerchug

IIRC you need to enable the check box for AA within the sim if using DX10 preview mode.HTHBill

Yes Tampa is a nice Airport, Have been twice, with BA in 2000 and United in 2003 and will be flying there this November with BA again.

Hi Jim, I have AA set at 4x and AF at 8x in performance mode, Texture preference and Mipmap detail level is full right, Vertical Sync is application preference and Truform is off. I run FS2004 at 1280x1024 70Hz (Can't get 1600x1200 on this flatscreen monitor)Fs2004 settings, Terrain mesh is 100, Texture size is high, Terrain detail is Land only and water effects is high. Special effects detail is high, Scenery complexity is full right, Autogen is normal, Dynamic scenery and ground shadows are off, Sun glare and lens flare are on.The only thing I have off in Aircraft tab is Reflections, Weather set distance is 60, cloud draw is 60, everything else 100% detailed clouds.Hardware tab, Frame rate limiter set at 25, AA unchecked, Mip mapping at 4, Hardware lights at 8, Bilinear Filtering and Globel texture settings massive.Likewise when water comes into display thats when the frames drop to single digit in current setting above.Hope we can get to the root of the problem, mabye its an ATI driver thing :-hmmm I am also going to buy a new Graphic card this year, I'm going over to Florida on vacation in November so the X800 XT or 6800 Ultra could be on the shopping list, mabye even a PCI express one !!Cheers :-beerchugBill

I put in the new textures as per instructions but it brings the sim to it's knees!If I switch it off frame rates return to normal.Any ideas :-hmmm Bill :-beerchug

Last August I was working down in London for a 10 week stint when it was the very hot weather. Anyway I ended up working on a broken down Air Conditioning unit on the roof of the Observatory shopping centre in Slough and the temperature was 97 degrees f!!!Ever so slightly warm if you ask me :-lolSlough seemed like a nice place, didn't bump into David, Gareth or Tim though :-)Bill
