HiI just upgraded my cpu from a 1.4 Athalon to a 2.4xp,I have a asus a7a266 mb and have installed the latest bios which is supposed to be compatible with my new cpu. I had to set my cpu/pci frequency in my bios and after some playing around it is stable at 109/36 which windows sais is 2.2ghz.shouldnt I be able to get it running at 2.4ghz, I dont really know what the frequency XXX/XX numbers mean, and I have tried quite a few but there are many more to choose from.thxFloyd

buss speeds are usually 100MHz/133MHz. You also have Multiplier settings. In the manual p.22, 3. Hardware Setup, you will see a table of multipliers from 5.0x up to 12.5x. You use these multiplier settings to get the correct CPU bus speeds. For instance, My AMD 1800XP runs at a speed of 1.533GHz. Using 133MHz bus speed it uses 133MHz X 11.5multiplier = 1.533GHz.According to AMD, the 2.2GB uses an 1.800GHz speed. Therefore, you would need a multiplier of 13.5. I don't know if your new BIOS provides additional multipliers or not. Also note from ASUS site only a7a266 ver 1.10 and a7a266-e ver 1.11 can use the 1012.001 BIOS update to use the AMD 2200XP at the rated speed.http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_ty..._docs/25175.pdf

I agree with the previous poster.. the CPU bus speed should be 133, not 109 which is simply an overclocked version of 100. Leave the PCI bus at its default setting of 33..
