January 9, 200323 yr Hi. My system specs areHP P4 1.3GHz128MB RDRAM32Mb NVidia GForce 2 MX.While I get decent framerates around most places (sorry cant remember exactly what the frames are off the top of my head), in certain areas, especially Sydney, LAX, and Heathrow, I get major stuttering, especially when I'm on short finals. It nearly becomes impossible to fly!!! This is with the default scenery and pretty heavy AI. What would you guys suggest that I upgrade, I was thinking of going for 256Mb or 512Mb of RAM, but looking at previous posts, maybe my video card could be the problem. Thanks in advance.Mark0402
January 9, 200323 yr You could use some more RAM and your graphics card is a little long in the tooth. However, your system is still going to be limited by your CPU speed. You will gain by adding more RAM, and a better graphics card, try an stay away from the MX varities. Whether you will see great gains or not depends on your total system. Some things you can do is to minimize those Terminal Stay Resident (TSR) programs like the ones showing by your clock. For Win98/ME, visit http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/index.htm for information. For WinXP, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertz...ips/default.asp .Update your drivers for your controller chips, i.e., VIA, Intel, Sis, AMD, ALi; sound, graphics adapter, etc.Try to optimize your computer before buying more stuff. January 9, 200323 yr RAM is inexpensive.. so start by adding a 256 Meg module if you have an empty memory slot. 384 Meg total memory will make a noticeable difference in smoothness. Cutting back on AI will also help!Look into pricing for a GF4 4200 128 Meg video card.. I have one and fly a 1.0 Gig processor.. it was a big improvement over my previous GF2MX. Bert
January 10, 200323 yr Thanks for your help guys. Been having a look at RAM and need some more help. i have RDRAM, so if I buy more RAM, does that also have to be RDRAM, because a lot of what I'm seeing is SDRAM. Any help appreciated.ThanksMark0402
January 10, 200323 yr I would say yes you will need RDRAM to match what you already have. If you provide the exact Model No. of your HP, I could try and look on their site to see what your computer is capable of taking.Otherwise, visit:http://www.corsairmemory.com orhttp://www.crucial.comto search for RAM modules for your computer. You can also search HP for information on your computer:http://www.hp.com Bill Sieffert
January 11, 200323 yr I would definitely upgrade your memory first. What OS are you running? 512MB is pretty much standard these days, especially with Windows 2000 or XP.For framerate improvement, I would uprgade your video card. A good card for the money is the ATI 9000 128MB.
January 12, 200323 yr Wsieffert, My computer is a HP Pavilion 9850. Ccgr, I am running Windows ME.Also, as with all HP's, there is a sticker on the front of the box with the specs on it. Down the bottom, it says "ready for the future with 7 bays and 6 slots". I assume that this means I wouldn't have to much problems adding new stuff into the computer?Mark0402
