May 12, 200323 yr Preview of Geforce FX 5900 Ultra reviewed herehttp://www.avault.com/hardware/getreview.a...fx5900ul&page=1Looks like theyve managed to make it alot quieter from the previous Geforce FX 5800 Ultra card.Craig Kiltie
May 12, 200323 yr Mad Onion 3D Mark 2001"Comparative test results under 3DMark 2001SE show the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra exercising some muscle and beating out its predecessor as well as the Radeon 9700 Pro in every test and at every resolution. A full round of testing showed a similar trend akin to the sample above, with the FX 5900 Ultra beating the 9700 Pro effectively. The only question is will performance improve more in the drivers before release in order to compete with the Radeon 9800 Pro, a card that is showing about 10% better performance than the 9700 Pro? If not, you will see a lot of battle lines being drawn around the review and gamer world as the two cards will most likely be tied for performance in this well recognized synthetic benchmark." It took them long enough to get it right. And in reality they still haven't. No DDRII as promised. Yeah there's support for it but why not offer what you said you would. At least they made it quiet. What I find funny though is even w the core clock and Mem clock advantage it just barely manages to beat a 9700Pro contrary to what the article states. Just look at the numbers. Wasn't even tested against a 9800Pro which is already out and available. Before I reserve full judgement I'll wait for some more reviews. It's funny becuase my 9700Pro with the cooling mods I have performed is Still as quiet as the stock card was and puts up numbers that are a very close match and in some cases exceeds the 5900's.The big thing is price !! Lets see them keep it under $399. If Nvidia really wants to slap ATI back in there place they won't wait for a price cut. Stand the Gaming world on it's tail by offering the card at around $325 straight out of the gate. I believe they owe it to us after the NV30 Debacle..Bobby
May 12, 200323 yr Author Yes its going to be an interesting next few months.I also heard that the new Detonators are out when the new card comes out and apparently some benchmarks which were on a french site and asked to be taken down by Nvidia of the card with the new drivers showed an ever bigger increase in 3d mark 2003. The test machine which I think was a top spec PC got about 6900ish 3d marks if I rememeber.Anyway as this is just a preview it will be interesting to see what happens when the card comes out and also if they can keep the price low.
May 12, 200323 yr It's good news for us gamers that Nvidia now has a card that's close to the ATI9800. Competition makes for better prices all around. My only concern in reading the reviews (previews) is the Nvidia Image Quality. Still not convinced that the Nvidia has effective enough AA to match ATI. Looks like the Anistrophic Filtering is on the mark though. With 256mb ram onboard, 1600x1200 will no longer be the limit in FS2002 for either card.
May 13, 200323 yr here is Tom's reviewhttp://www17.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030512/index.html I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
May 13, 200323 yr Bobby,>It took them long enough to get it right. And in reality they>still haven't. No DDRII as promised. Not sure where you are comming from as it has been known since the NV35 was tested last year and was shown to most MFGR reps and vendors that the NV35 would not use the hard to produce DDR2, Nvidia Never used DDR2 in the published specs for NV35 and its effect or lack there of are not significant what so ever.Your Post sounds like you have a case of Video card envy! :)"Wasn't even tested against a 9800Pro which is already out and available."Ummmm Where are they? There are plenty of reviews with real benchmarks comparing it to the 9800P and in most cases the NV35 handed the 9800P the door(AA quality aside).>The big thing is price !! I>believe they owe it to us after the NV30 Debacle..True, but unfortunitly if you want the fastest card on the market you will have to pay closer to $500 for the 256mb version and $400/128mb.Keep your 9700 Bobby.Take Care.
May 14, 200323 yr _________________________________________________There are plenty of reviews with real benchmarks comparing it to the 9800P and in most cases the NV35 handed the 9800P the door(AA quality aside)._________________________________________________Paul; you're forgetting that the 9800 Pro was running on 128mb ram. Since the 3.4 drivers are not yet available which enable the 9800 Pro use of the 256mb ram. At least that's my understanding. Also, Nvidia's AA is clearly inferior to the 9800 Pro. But, it does look like Nvidia got it right this time and is definitely challenging ATI. Isn't competition great. Although I plan on keeping my 9700 Pro for several years, there's plenty of folks who'll find these cards much cheaper in the near future now.
May 14, 200323 yr And the "Evil" one awakens ;)My point about the DDRII was that there was talk of DDRII showing up on the NV35 when it was first announced. I thought for sure that when Nvidia ran into the quandry they did with the NV30 they may have thought to take it a step farther.I can only laugh at your "Must be suffering from video card envy" Um yeah OK if you think that's what it is. From the benchmarks I have seen so far my current card can more than stay w the 5900. Yeah it may perform slower in certain tests but from what I see I'm not losing sleep over 10%.Oh yeah and I geuss the card is really faster, but I and many others don't want to have to fly w AA and AF turned down just to pull the framerates the 97-9800's can. Based on the review from Tom's the card seems to be a screamer even w AA and AF initialized, But I have also seen tests from other respectable (Don't worry I'm not talking MaximumPC ;) in which the 9800 was faster in 80% of the tests. This debate will go on forever and only we stand to benefit.I'm not saying the card isn't a nice piece of hardware. I geuss it's like anything else in life. The more the hype the bigger the letdown sometimes..Oh and don't worry, I am keeping my 9700...Nobody has given me reason to replace it...Except for maybe the 256 9800. :)Have a good oneBobbyP.S. I thought it was too long a time since you "chimed" in on one of my comments. :) I was begining to miss the abuse...
