W.Sieffert,I have reinstalled the Hyperions and installed the 43.45 for W98 from Guru3D,but no change. Thanks,Russell

Russell, I solved my version of the problem! For you it wll be sightly different on account of us having different chipsets, but I guess BASICALLY the solution for you will be similar.I went to guru3d, and looked for intel chipset stuff. There's a file there called "inf update utility v 5.0" (that's for intel chipsets), which updates the way the operating system communicates with, among other things, the AGP bus. After having read the "readme" file I got desperate, because it's pages long and gives dozens of very important and extremely touchy parameters, paradigms and parachutes (grin!), but I decided "what the heck!" and bravely let the exe file take care of itself. It was an act of desperation, but: it worked! The ti4400 properties now duly say: "AGP 4x", and FS2002 now runs, in the words of the late general George S. Patton Jr., "like crap through a goose". Really an ENORMOUS improvement in speed and speed-related (blurries) quality.Tomorrow I'll go and see the computer blokes in the shop anyway, to give them a piece of my mind. They are supposed to be the experts, and they are NOT supposed to send a client who just spent about 500 euros home with an expensively updated but severely crippled rig that's limping along on one leg only. Russell, go have a look at guru3d, they will quite likely have a similar patch or update for your chipset. It makes an ENORMOUS difference!God luck, mate!Jaap Verduijn.

Really pleased you've got it sorted Jaap, and thanks for the info. Busy right now but I'll search Guru3D this afternoon. I'll let you know how I get on. Once again thanks.Regards,Russell.

Russell, what MIGHT be the equivalent patch or update for your board is the file "via AGP drivers 4.40" on guru3d. By the sound of it, it might solve your problem, although you shouldn't consider me an expert (wide grin)! All the best, and keep us posted!Jaap Verduijn.

Whooo, Jaap, that sure was a stony road I just took. I downloaded that Via 4.40 and am now in deep Bruhaha. The computer went #### up. I can't get it out of 640x840. Keeps telling me display adapter not configured. Takes me thro' configuration process, tells me success is just around the corner, restart now for blazing performance. Restart and it tells me display adapter not configured, and so it goes on, round and round this loop. Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained, or something like that. I admit defeat. The mut keeps asking me for things I never even knew existed. It's back to the shop with it tomorrow, It's time I moved up to Wxp anyway. Thanks for your help anyway, I'll let you know when I eventually find that overdrive gear I paid all those

Holy cow, Russell, that really stinks! But: I experience something like that just about every time I install a new driver, whether it's a normal video driver or a stereo 3d driver for my edimensional glasses. I always manage to solve it, though by no quality or virtue of my own: I just keep pushing anything that can be pushed, and clicking anything that can be clicked, and trying the lesser walked roads. I never know what exactly does the healing job, but every time, just when I'm prepared to set fire to the bloody rig, it suddenly works.I can't give a straight advice here because, as I said, I never know what exactly I'm doing (sad grin)! But you might look for quite unlikely options. I, for instance, can ONLY set my monitor refresh rate through the stereo properties of my rig, wouldya believe it?! And nView turns out to be doing some useful things as well that should be only possible OUTSIDE and WITHOUT nView. Right now it seems that I'm just lucky: the file I downloaded and installed could just as well have shoved me into the same well-known loop you're in right now, instead of actually WORK. Next time I bugger up something I will throw out my PC, buy myself a Mac and run only x-plane from then on: a no-nonsense computer with a flight sim that was developed FOR that particular computer, that's what the Mac/X-plane combo is. Death to IBM and all its sad clones, and a fate worse than death to Microsoft for all the feeble foibles they force upon us!Be strong and keep the faith (grin)!Jaap Verduijn.

W.Just to make sure I am on the same page with you ...You ran DXDIAG from command prompt then on the Display Tab of DirectXDagnostic Tool, Direct X Features section, AGP Acceleration button will be grey out implying that AGP Acceleration is not available? Is that the button (AGP Acceleration) you referred in your post above where you said "see if you now have the ability to select AGP".My Asus P4PE 2.4 GHz with a LeadTek TI4600 128 MB shows this button greyed out (implying not available). However in FS2002, if I uncheck AGP (, the sim's frames per seconds goes down drastically. My bios shows AGP acceleration is 4X. Reinstalled nVidia 40.72 drivers with no change. Interestingly, my Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, GeForce4 Ti4600 tab, Adaptor Information line shows "AGP (PCI Mode). Further, RivaTuner Graphics subsystem diagnostic report shows that "AGP Status: Disabled". FS seems to run OK.Larry

Since you are using Win98, try loading into the Safe Mode, open device manager, and remove any NVidia and VIA, ViaTech entries, if there are any. Reboot your computer, let it try and start normally. If you have the same problems, just cancel the installation, and let it get to the desktop. Right click your desktop, select properities, settings tab, advanced button, adapter tab, change button, next button, select "display a list of all the drivers...", next button, select "Show all hardware". In the left area, arrow to the top, select "(Standard display types)". In the right area, select "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA), select next, and continue until the finish. When it completes, it should reboot your computer. If not, reboot and cancel any attempts to update the drivers. The computer should be in the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter mode.Next install the Hyperion 1446vp6 drivers. Reboot the computer, if it doesn't automatically do so. It should now have the proper controller chip drivers installed.Next install the graphics drivers of choice making sure they are the Win98 version. I recommend the 40.72 or 41.09 first before going to the 43.45.Hopefully, this will get you back to where you started and maybe a little further down the road.

Jaap, my friend, your advice turned good in the end. After chucking the towel in I nipped round to a friends to calm down. After a couple of rum & blacks I thought dammit, if Jaap can do it, so can I. So back to the keyboard, and,lo and behold, things started to happen (like you, don't ask me how) I now have the AGP enabled. 4x in the bios, 1x on the card, so I still have to figure that one out. At least tho' I have things moving thro' the right pipes,so to speak. The funny thing is, I have to go back to my friends now, would you believe, he wants me to help him install a GForce card I've just given him. Ha,ha. Talk about the blind leading the blind. When (If )we're done, I'll have another glass of rum and toast your name for the help you've given. All in all, a trying but interesting day. Thanks Jaap,Best Regards,Russell.

W.Sieffert, did'nt see your post till this instant. As you may know from my post to Jaap I now have the AGP enabled. The thing is it kept taking me thro' a loop of installing the drivers, saying they were installed, restart, then telling me to install the drivers again. It nearly sent me crazy. After a "rest" I came back and it installed without trouble. Your help is very much appreciated. Somewhere along the line, the Via AGP drivers 4.40 must have done the trick, but don't ask me how, 'cos for a start they messed the system up good and proper. I did so many things to get it back on line I have'nt a clue what actually did the trick. Again, thanks for the help.Regards,Russell.

Good oh! Russell, there's nothing that a generous shot of first class booze can't solve (grin)! Glad to hear that you're on the right track too!Jaap Verduijn.

I used the program from Intel mnetioned in a post above called INF UPDATE UTILITY (infinst_en.zip) for WinXP Pro which is located athttp://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df...al&submit=Go%21After I installed the utility and rebooted, my DX DIAG now shows AGP Texture: Enabled as shown in the .jpeg below.System Details:Asus P4PE 2.4 GHz Intel P4 with SSE2, 1.0 GB PC2700 DDR memory,Lead Tek GeForce4 NV25 Ti4600 128 MB Direct X 8.1 Display drivers 40.72 9/27/2002 Driving two analog monitors in 1280x1024 32 bit mode 75 Hz Refresh

Hi there, i have been following this thread closely and after checking everything on my computer i found that I have the same problem. my AGP is running in PCI mode. Although when I ran DXdiag and looked under display AGP exceleration was enabled. So I thought i would try and run the INF update V5.0 just as jaapverduijn did too see if it would work. I built this system myself and figured I must have missed that part when i built it. so i ran that and went back and checked my graphics card properties and no joy still says the same thing as shown in the picture. Any other ideas guys?P4 2.0Windows XP home/service pack 1512 DDRDFI NB35-EL MOBONVIDIA GeForce TI4200

Can't help you here, Kevin. I've no experience with Windows XP, so any advice of mine will probaby ruin more than it repairs...Mind: the patch/upgrade I used (and that didn't work for you) is for intel chipsets only. What chipset does your motherboard have? Good luck!Jaap Verduijn.

  • 4 weeks later...

My athlon 2000 XP with GF-ti4600 has been a good machine.Today I finally got around to searching for why the stupid video card would say "AGP ( PCI MODE )" in the diplay control panel.I found a few threads like this one and proceed to find the AGP driver for my Sis745 motherboard chipset controller.I still have to see it a few more time, but I think I was running a severly hamstrung machine - like with one arm tied behind's back.It seems like I have 30% - 60% improvement in FPS. Simflyers LAX is 10+ FPS daytime with all sliders to the right and lots of custom AI traffic. It may be placebo effect, but I don't think so. I had a little saved flight that would use to test image quality and I remember getting 15+ FPS or so - now I am at 30 - 45.So what does it mean techincal terms when it says AGP ( PCI MODE )?- Myles
