Hi. can anyone give me a pointer as to why my TI4600 is running in PCI mode. I just don't understand how to get it to run in AGP2x/4x. I've looked in the Bios, but have'nt a clue what to touch. Any help would be much appreciated.Regards, Russell.

It's very probable that your card is actually in a PCI slot, meaning it isnt AGP. The only way to check is by actaully opening the PC itself and checking. An AGP slow is placed further in towards the center of the Motherboard and there is usually only 1 of them. Whilst a PCI slow is closer to the edge of the motherboard, and there will be at least 2-3 of them, probably more. Hope this helpsRegardsJohnhttp://www.bavirtual.co.ukP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

It may be that you need to install the drivers for your controller chips. Open Device Manager, open System Devices, and look for similiar lines as the following:VIA CPU to AGP ControllerIntel CPU ....SiS CPU ....Look in your computer manual to see what controller chips are in your computer, i.e. Intel, VIA, SiS, AMD, ALi. Once you have that information, you can download and install the drivers from your computer manufacturer or the chips vendor.Once you have the drivers installed, you might need to reinstall the graphics adapter drivers.Another area to look is the DirectX Diagnostic. Press Start, Run, type dxdiag, OK. Let DirectX Diagnostic stabilize, select the Display tab and try enabling the AGP acceleration. If it is grayed out then see above about controller chip drivers.

He sais his card was a 'Ti4600', which means that there isn't a PCI verison of it available. Just checked www.pricewatch.com to be sure. And there is no way to hook an AGP slotted card into a PCI slot, just won't fit for more than one reason. PCI is different sized, And PCI is closer to the back of the case, meaning that part of his Ti4600 would be sticking out of the back. Now, to be fair, I am not actually measuring out the size of the AGP slot vs the PCI slots, but I think I am right. I am for sure right about the recessed nature of the AGP slot :)What you need to do is what another poster in this thread suggested, install chipset drivers, if you haven't already. Also, have you installed the actual video card drivers for your Ti4600? I recommend the 43.00s if you haven't installed any. Both chipset drivers and your videocard drivers are available at www.guru3d.com

I didn't see the BIOS bit in the OP. In the BIOS, what you are looking for is anything that says 'AGP' followed by a number, like 1x, 2x, or 4x. If IIRC, the Ti4600 was not built to run @ 1x, but only 2x or higher. Not sure what would happen if you had it set your AGP mode set to 1x. It depends on the BIOS as to where it is located. If you could supply the motherboard model, we could help you more. On mine it is located at Advanced Chipset Features --> AGP & P2P Bridge Control --> AGP Mode --> Good luck!

That's right. I had the exact same problem with an earlier computer, and it was solved by loading the correct AGP drivers for my motherboard, which I got from the manufacturer's site. I'll bet your solution will be similar.BTW, once I got the correct drivers loaded and working and the card running in AGP mode, I was shocked at how much better the performance was. I can only hope you have a similar experience, 'cause it was like getting a new computer for me, and really increased my enjoyment of FS2002.

Thanks for the replys. Please understand I know very little about the inner workings of computers and leave it up to the guy at the local computer shop. Unfortunately, he seems to know very little more than me, hence my reliance on you guys. So I'll give you my system.AMD 2000xpSoltek SL-75DRV5 Latest 4in1 drivers from SoltekAsus V8460 Ultra Deluxe TI4600 128m Omega 43.45512mb ddr ramIn the bios, AGP is set at 4x but in the GF4TI4600 properties it says AGP is disabled and thats where I'm stuck, how to enable. Thanks again,Russell

This post has me thinking now ;-) I run a P4 2.4 with a Ti4600 card and my graphics have gone down the crapper real fast! I've tried everything; reinstalling FS2002, trying different card drivers, background programs running, etc... It's to the point now, that i'm ready to go back to my 500mhz system with 32meg MX video card, which actually looked better than my current system does now. When you guy's talk about AGP running in PCI mode, where acactly does it say that? I clicked on my card and it says AGP 4X, but when I click on the actual Ti4600 Properties, under the "General" tab it says:Device Type: Display AdaptersManufacturer: NVIDIALocation: PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0Now why would it say PCI under location when it's in the AGP Slot?Should I also be concerened?thanks!

I've got a similar situation: BIOS says "4x AGP", GF4 TI4400 properties says "AGP disabled". Not the faintest idea what's going on...Jaap Verduijn.

Ha,ha,I would say,"be concerned Doooh" By the way, in the DXDIAG, it says AGP enabled. In the graphic card properties it says disabled. I'm perplexed, but not too concerned. W.Sieffert is on the case. I've read a lot of his posts and have a huge respect for his knowledge. Hey, don't feel under pressure W.Sieffert, but if you can't solve it, I reckon we're all down Doooh's crapper.Regards,Russell

According to Soltek - http://www.soltekusa.com/product/showprodu...ctid=1041105317 , your MOBO has VIA controller chips. Visit http://www.viaarena.com/ and download and install the http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1...n4in1446vp6.exe . Next visit http://www.guru3d.com/ and download the graphics adapter drivers for WinXP. I like version 40.72 and 41.09.Once you have the drivers installed, press start, run, type dxdiag, OK. Let it stablize and check to see if you now have the ability to select AGP. If not, press start, control panel, add/remove programs, and look for NVidia drivers and remove them. Once you have rebooted your computer, select one of the graphics adapter drivers you downloaded and double-click on the executable and it should install the drivers.Check the dxdiag again after the reinstallation of the graphics drivers.

Hi, I already have the Hyperion 1446vp6. Do you mean to uninstall, then reinstall ? Im on Win98se not XP. In DXDIAG it already says AGP is enabled, in bios 4x AGP is enabled, but on the graphic card it says AGP is disabled and in PCI mode. Thanks for your help.Russell.

With the exception of the "hyperion" part (my mobo has got an Intel chipset), I am in exactly the same situation. AGP is duly enabled in dxdiag, it is duly enabled (4x) in the BIOS, but the ti4400 properties show that AGP is disabled and that the card runs in PCI mode. SiSoftSandra also says that the AGP bus doesn't function. All this happened after my local computershop upgraded my box with a new mobo (Asus P4B533), a new processor (P4 2.4 Ghz), new power supply (350W) and new memory (DDR instead of SD). For some odd reson they seem to have done something in order to deprive me of AGP. I reckon I'll take my box back to them tomorrow, and let them sort out their own mess.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

Jaap, please let me know if they solve the problem. Mine also happened after a similar upgrade, but he (the computer man) has'nt a clue what to do.Regards,Russell.

Sure Russell, I'll keep you posted. Seems we're in exactly the same deplorable circumstances, mate (sad grin)!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.
