September 9, 200322 yr I've recently updated windows via the automatic updates, but for some reason my display, when running FS has horizontal lines appearing/streaking across the screen. When I exit to the desktop it returns to normal, no lines. I've tried to update my video card drivers, adjusting some of the settings, but still nothing happens. Can anyone else relate to this/shed any light.O/S - XPVideo Card - 256MB Radeon 9200AK Alaister Kay
September 9, 200322 yr Hi Alaister, there could be various reasons, overheating being one of them, but we would need some more information about this. What are your exact system specs, i.e. CPU, mobo, memory, etc. Also, which version of FS are you running, and are you running in full screen mode? If yes, does this also occur when running other programs in full screen mode? Also, are you sure about your video card specs? According to ATI, the 9200 is only available with 64 or 128MB of memory.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
September 9, 200322 yr Author Hi,I've only just got the system so i'm not entirely sure about the mother board, but my main specs areAthlon XP30001024MB DDR RAM256MB ATI Radeon 9200 series320GB HHDWindows XP Home EditionFS2004 in full screenMS Bluetooth desktop mouse and keyboardI've checked under the advanced tab of display properties and the adapter information states that its a 9200 AGP, internal DAV(400MHz) with 256MB memory size.I have to admit that my system case is quite large and sits below my table top. There is about 10-15cm of ventilation space to the back of the case, but there is nothing to the side, so I wouldn't have thought it to be overheating.I hope this can shed any light. Thanks for the reply Alaister Kay
September 9, 200322 yr Hi Alaister,I gather you didn't build the system yourself, but bought it pre-made? If so, what's the manufacturer and model name? Maybe the manufacturer has all the specs listed on the website, or in the manual. Also of interest are your monitor and power supply (manufacturer, name and output). And does the corruption also occur in other applications that are run in full screen mode? If you don't have any, restart the computer, and watch the Windows logo on the black screen during boot-up. Any lines, squares, etc. there? As to your temperatures, I'm running an XP3000+, Asus A7N8X motherboard and a Radeon 9700Pro. My mobo temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius, and CPU around 50 degrees Celsius. If you don't have a monitoring utility, your BIOS should give you the temperatures. If they're siginificantly higher than mine, that could be a problem.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
September 9, 200322 yr Author I bought the system from Time Computers (UK), quite a well known manufacturer. I've got an 18" TFT screen (also new with up-to-date drivers).I've checked on the start-up as you suggested, but the welcome screen seems normal. When the desktop appears, its also normal, although it does flicker with these horizontal lines sometimes when I move the mouse over an icon. As for the temperatures, they are around abouts what you've got, although mine are a little higher - CPU at 55 degrees C and the system is at 46 degrees C.This is beginning to do my head in!!! Anyway cheers for the help, i'm off to bed hoping the problems gonna go away over night :-lol Cheers Alaister Kay
September 10, 200322 yr The temps you are getting are near the top. If you can, pull the computer from the area, remove the case cover, and see if the problems are corrected.Another thing to check is the vertical frequency you are using. Usually, if the graphics card can detect the monitor, it will provide the vertical frequencies allowed for the monitor. If your graphics card thinks your monitor is generic, find the monitor information about vertical frequencies and set the frequency to one that the monitor can use properly.Generally, you can select the correct frequency by right-clicking your desktop, select properties, settings tab, advanced button, adapter tab or other tab depending on the drivers you have installed.W.
