September 29, 200322 yr Hey guys, just built a new system and went with the nforce2 on board sound, now I can't connect my joystick as it has a gameport plug on it instead of USB. I am using a sidewinder FF2 stick and it works great, don't want to have to but a new one, Bought an adapter, but it is not functioning properly. Tried to install the drivers that came on the CD awhile back, but got the message that they are not compatable with XP, went to the product site, saw no new XP drivers. Any ideas on how to get this working?? It recognizes the USB port, but not the joystick!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com Best, Michael KDFW

September 29, 200322 yr Hi Michael, does the adapter actually alter the signal? I have an MS Sidewinder, and it comes with an adapter that is just a small cable with a gameport socket at at one end, and a USB plug at the other. To me, this suggests that the joystick output can be 'read' by a gameport as well as a USB port by default. Also, which motherboard did you get? I have an Asus A7N8X, and I think there was a game port connector included in the package (Unfortunately, the box is in the bedroom, and my wife is asleep there right now, so I can't check :)).Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
September 29, 200322 yr Author Thanks Gosta, yes, it actually alters the signal, when I hit the hat switch it chages views, cockpit, VC, spot etc. The cord you have is exactly what I need, unfortunately mine Sidewinder is a couple of yeras old, so I don't think it came with that cord, any ideas if I can buy it somewhere. I got my MOBO (same as yours) from a place really cheap and OEM so it didn't have any extras with it, but I have a couple of friends with this MOBO, if I can find the gameport, does it just connect to the the back and plug into the mobo at somne point? Thanks for the feedback!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com Best, Michael KDFW
September 29, 200322 yr Hi Michael,my Sidewinder is also about two years old, so there's a very good chance it will work with that cord. You should be able to buy one somewhere. However, when I tried to find one (I got another old Sidewinder from a friend, which I tried to convert to 'pseudo' rudder pedals), all the shops I went to tried to tell me such a cord didn't exist and that it wouldn't work anyway. Even when I put my cable on the counter right in front of them, they still wouldn't admit it's existence. You may have more luck, if you go to one of those small independent shops, where all the hardcore computer builders go... :).If you can find the gameport, it just plugs into the motherboard and you screw the socket itself into one of the slots where the PCI cards normally go. I just had a look in my motherboard box, and it's there, it's got one game port and two additional USB ports. It's also mentioned in the motherboard manual (page 32), so if your friends don't have one, just take the manual with you to the shop (just in case the mobo connectors aren't standardised), and if they don't have the adapter cord, you could just get a game port instead.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
September 29, 200322 yr Author Hey Gosta, thank you for the replies, I contacted one of my friends and they did indeed have the gameport add on, got it and it is installed, now well see how well this baby runs FS! LOLI figured that just a cord existed, but after many online searches and asking about it at stores, I was beginning to wonder. thanks again!!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com Best, Michael KDFW
