What is the best digital camera to buy?

Hi,Way off topic, but ;)Well, not sure what the best camera is, but I recently brought a Sony DSC-P72, it was

Yes, the Digital Rebel I thing is the best value, if you like digital SLR. I have one and still impressed by its performance everyday. But you have to shell out US$ 900 something to get it.J. Andre Panggabean

It also depends on if you want full manual control, or just point and shoot. Interchangeable lenses or add-on lens (converters) Full interchangeable lenses can cost as much as you have to spend on the camera. Converters (tele and wide angle) can be had for low prices.BUY GOOD GLASS though... it's one of the main components to good photos. Are you going to print or just view on monitor ? If printing, how large? larger size need more megapixels to start with.. computer screen viewing can look good with less if price is concern. Also, less cropping and work can be done with lower res/ lower MP shots. Let's see, you have about $550 USD at most to spend... there are several out there in that range.I love my Fujifilm S602z it's out over a year now, but have seen no need to replace it with latest model, which is the S7000You might have a look at the Fuji line before you decide. Also, most of them do not have very good "on board" flashes so watch for ones with "hot shoe" for external flash attachment. If you plan on doing any "action" shots, check the specs on the shutter lag and data write times.Too much to get into here in the computer forum, but they are out there.Good luck with the hunt,

Hello,I am going to check out the Canon EOS 300DAround

Greetings. Last May I upgraded my digital camera. One of the main things I was interested in getting in a new camera was a high level of optical zoom--and from my research at the time it looked like only a very few models were on the market with decent levels of optical zoom available. Most models are quoted as having just a 3X optical zoom capability, and that's certainly not enough for my needs. I find that with the ability to zoom in much closer many more outdoor scenes can be photographed successfully, and there's just much more flexibility than when one is limited to 3X zoom, as with my old Kodak digital. So I bought the Olympus C740 Ultra Zoom camera, and I've been very happy with it. In fact I've taken numerous great pictures since. That model, which was fairly new on the market at the time, has 3.2 megapixels, and many fine reviews on the Web. Here's one site you can check:http://pcphotoreview.com/defaultcrx.aspxBear in mind that you'll probably have to spend around an additional $100 if you want to buy a 256 MB memory card to go with the camera; the 16 MB card that comes in the box is good for only about 20 photos at the higher resolution setting.P.S. Wouldn't you know it--I forgot to mention that the C740 UZ from Olympus has 10X optical zoom capability.

My Dad used to do professional quality photography as a hobby years back. He said that when buying a digital camera, don't go cheap. This means that the cheaper ones (one that are like $60-$100 at Radio Shack) are no good. Go mid to high price range at 2.0 megapixles or higher. These cameras deliver high image quality. I still prefer the now old fashion 35mm cameras. If you have a good scanner, you can digitize these as well. In my opinion, 35mm delivers more bang for your buck. It's just as expensive to print photochemical images as digital ones.

Hello,Well after seeing your comments I may as well save up a little longer and get something worth having. Therefore, my new budget will probably be

Well,Having just looked at the Fujifilm S5000ZOOM / Digital Camera, I must say this looks like a good compromise. As I don't want a full professional camera, but at the same time would like something to get decent shots with.http://www.24-7electrical.com/epages/twent...7&source=KELKOOMight get it from here, comes with 256mb memory stick too, which is very ample.Regards,Alexander Martin.

None of them do it all or do it all well,(or at the cost you want) you have to decide what features and specs best suit your needs and go that way.One more item that you will need to watch (as in this type Fuji) is what type batteries it takes. Some use "packs" that cost much more and can't be subsituted.. on the other hand if you pick one that takes AA size batteries like this, you can buy them most anywhere and prices are dropping as larger capacity cells come out. Largest right now are at 2300 Mah which puts 1800 cells as the base and really cheap.Digital cameras really EAT power so you need at least two sets (depending on how much you shoot per outing)I shoot hundreds of high res shots on my S602z on one set of AA cells using 1800 & 2100 Mah when I replace them, I go with the next capacity UP as the prices drop before I need new. Four 2100 Mah for about $10 USD at the momentBTW, you mUST use NiMH cells to get these good results. Plus a good "Smart" charger that will give you full charge in about 3 hours or less. Smart, meaning with IC circuit to monitor each cell and do what is needed without killing the cells. My camera has max opical zoom of 210mm in 35mm camera equivalency(don't count digital zoom at all) Then I can screw on my Tele-converter to get it to 357mm which does airshows and auto races very well. Cost of lens.. $100 'ish USD Wide angle about $130 at the moment.Size of storage media depends on what resolution you take AND store your photos at. Again, depends on what you want from your photos in the end. I shoot at max megapixel and store in "fine" .Jpg mode with does compress the files, but not as much as "normal" Some even store in UNcompress form for best quality, but very large files. You just need to study the subject more before you buy.. you can spend tons of time on the Internet doing it, but worth it.I really like that http://www.dpreview.com site. Some good stuff there.Really helpful to hit the forums THERE and see what others are saying about whatever camera you are looking at. First hand experience is the BEST in these matters.I think I'll have to drop out of this thread now as it's really off topic for Avsim and I don't want to cause problems :-)Good luck, study the subject well and you'll see what you need..Best,

>Might get it from here, comes with 256mb memory stick too,>which is very ample.>>Regards,>>Alexander Martin.Greetings again Ali. I was interested in what you mentioned above, and followed the link you gave for that camera. I think their listing is, shall we say, rather incomplete when it comes to the amount of memory included with the camera. I double checked at Amazon.com, and it looks to me like that camera comes with only a 16 MB xD card in the box, which is what I would expect. Try a search for the camera at Amazon.com, and click the "product specs" link to see the details; they include a listing of the accessories shipped in the box there. So unless your vendor has some sort of special deal going with the memory cards, it looks like you'll still have to buy a separate card along with the camera.

Greetings,http://www.internetcamerasdirect.co.uk/Fuj...amera-deals.htmI have found a better deal and you can get a 128mb chip with it under the mega deals. So it would work out cheaper rather than buying the camera and the chip separate.I think 128 is enough for now...Also, this site gives you a free tripod...:)Regards,Alexander Martin.
