Power Switch Problem on my Computer

Hi,My computer started acting up last night. When I pressed the main On button on the main case, the computer wouldn't start. However, after turning off the main power to the computer via the Bus Bar, the computer would start ok by pressing the On Switch. It seems that everytime I want to start my computer I have to flip the switch on the main bus bar first. What does this suggest?Any ideas? Thanks.

Most computers have the ATX powersupply. This type powersupply uses small wires to your power switch to a relay in the powersupply. The old style AT power supply had the AC current at the power switch. The ATX style allows the computer to be shut down by the software when it opens the relay inside the power supply.I would check for several things:Did you change any BIOS or Motherboard jumpers recently? If so, recheck the settings and see if it corrects your problem.Do you hear a relay open (clicking noise) when the computer shuts down? If not, the relay may be welded in the closed position. It could also be that sensing circuitry has failed in your powersupply.Have you updated Windows recently and the problem started after the update? Have you experienced a Windows failure recently that caused your computer to halt or reboot and the problem started after the failure?W. Sieffert
