October 11, 200421 yr Hey guys,I installed an ATI 9800 Pro a few days ago replacing my 4400Ti. So far, things are good except that textures have a jaggy appearance - see the attached pic (blue livery stripes). I have AA turned off in FS9. I have AA set to 6x and AF set to 8x in the video drivers themselves. I'm using the latest Catalyst drivers (4.9). I'm at a loss here. Any ideas? When I zoom in real close, things smooth out. Thanks,Matt Zagoren Matt Zagoren CPU: i5-750 Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Ram: 8GB DDR3 HD: Hitachi 1 TB Video: Galaxy GTX570 OS: Win 7 64-Bit
October 12, 200421 yr Matt, this is a common thing with the ATI cards. If you add mips, the line jag won't be as bad.Theres not much that can be done about it since the ATI cards cannot alias those edges. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
October 12, 200421 yr Author John,Thanks for the reply. When you say add mips, I assume you are referring to the aircraft texture itself, correct? Also, do you know why the ATI cards can't alias the edges of certain textures? Not all aircraft display as bad as this particular one.***EDIT***I just answered my own question. I added mips to the fuselage textures and the jag's are much better. Thanks for the info John!:)Matt Zagoren Matt Zagoren CPU: i5-750 Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Ram: 8GB DDR3 HD: Hitachi 1 TB Video: Galaxy GTX570 OS: Win 7 64-Bit
October 12, 200421 yr No worries mate :)I am not sure if its possible to be fixed by drivers, or if its hardware, but its a pain in the butt on certain liveries :-eek Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
October 13, 200421 yr I have this problem too with my 6800 Ultra if I use 4x or lower FSAA. I can use 4xS or higher to fix the problem but unfortunately it would be to slow to use good looking overcast clouds in FS2004 at 1600x1200 4xS FSAA based on my FS2004 settings. The image quality actually looks worse at 1024x768 4xS than 1600x1200 4x on my LCD because the native res is 1600x1200 on my LCD. I didn't have jagged textures with my Ti4600 that I use to own. I have a 9800 Pro as well and it shows jagged textures in my Captain Sim 727 aircraft.
October 13, 200421 yr Can you tell me where in the CS 727 you see the jaggied textures withthe 9800 PRO? Only at very far distances I get jaggied textures with my 9800 Pro card, usually it is very smooth. I have anti-alias set at 4x and AF at 16x in the windows settings and it remains smooth no matter which catalyst driver I use. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
October 22, 200421 yr Hi Matt,I have a 9800 pro and I do not have that problem. I have AA set to 4 and AF to 16. I have the latest Catalyst drivers (4.10)I am still looking for the best settings for the 9800 pro. I get 20 to 25fps at LAS with all FS-9 settings set to full.Eddie
