October 31, 200421 yr This was meant to go in Hardware forum....sorryCan someone start a thread in the screenshot forum posting screenshots from either of these two cards.?I'm sorry if this is classed as 'off topic' but I'm looking at buying a new Graphics card, but don't know which one to go for.6800 or X800 ?ThanksSteve Steve Smith i7-2600K - GTX580 - 8GB ram
October 31, 200421 yr www.hardocp.com did a very good comparative review of both cards with many screenshots. And it even included FS2004 as one of the games. Go there and you will find it.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
October 31, 200421 yr Tom's Hardware did a very interesting review for their VGA Charts IV article. It looks like the X800XT PE is on top, but with no AA or AF. The Geforce 6800s handle AA and AF much better ranking the best at 4x AA and 8xAF.http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/2..._charts-09.htmlI would personally go for the either the 6800 Ultra, 6800GT, 6800 standard, or the X800Pro. The x800XT PE is just too expensive for what it does. More bang for the buck with the 6800s.
October 31, 200421 yr Also,The X800 series uses a trilinear algorithm which switches between bilinear and trilinear filtering at will. The end user has no option in the ati control panel to turn this on or off, thus many including the inquirer.net have labeled it a 'cheat'. Higher frame rates are often seen on X800's with aa and anio turned on because of this hardware built in feature. Couple that with the design of the R420, which is nothing more than a revamp of the two year old r360 chip (think 9700 pro), and this is a card too expensive in my opinion. It doesn't have full directx 9.0c support either. The best card right now for the money is the 6800GT. It can beat out the X800pro in nearly any benchmark, can overclock to Ultra speeds, has one molex connector, and cost 100 less than both the 6800Ultra and X800XT cards. No offense to Michal, but I do not like HardOCP reviews. Unlike many other review sites, they're completely bias, and proof of that is comparing their findings to any other two (or three) review website's findings. HardOCP ironically always differs in their results than any other hardware site on the internet. Anandtech.com gets my nod for being the most concise, and unbiased.Mike
November 2, 200421 yr I had a 6800GT and now own a X800 Pro. I prefer ATI, thats just me. Doesn't matter which one you get, you'll get nice results. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
