surface wind issues and RCv3

Featured Replies

Hi again,I think I'm narrowing the problem down to Radar Contact which means I start fs2002 on low priority and RCv3 on high priority. It seems the other guy having a problem with it was a Radar Contact User.Just my info, will look into it.Sean

I am also having problems with surface winds at destination. I am also using RCv3, but on a separate PC with WideFS. ActiveSky is running on that PC as well. Flew two flights today, one to KDRO and another to KPVU and both had the winds aloft at the destination. Had a 90 degree 42 knot crosswind at KDRO. I was wondering if there may be a problem with FD processing since these are both relatively high altitude airports. DRO is 6700' and PVU is 4800'.

Hello Again,Just doing some quick checks with the surface wind anomolies today, and noticed that it not only occurs at destination, but also when enroute. I took off from O'Hare and climbed to 13000 ft. At approximately 30 miles E of KORD, the winds aloft were 222 @ 38. I then tuned Meigs Atis, and it reported the proper sky conditions but the winds at my current altitude. I thought this was strange, so I restarted and used FS-Meteo. Now when tuned to Meigs ATIS the correct surface winds were reported (250 @ 6kts), with the Winds aloft at 38kts. I was also running Radar Contact Ver 3 at the time. RCv3 and Active Sky are on a separate computer from FS2k2 communicating via WideFS. Hope this info helps troubleshoot the problem. Thanks for an excellent product.Kyle

Hi,I think I solved the issue. I did as Mr. Clark said and installed the newest AdvDisp along with the new FSUIPC and all went well. Winds changed as I got closer to landing to the correct setting. Give it a try.Sean

Hmmmm. No change here. ATIS still reported winds at KSEA as 328 at 32kts, which is exactly what FSNav showed. I was at 21000ft. By time I got to the airport they were 170 at 6. Still a problem here.

how far from ksea were you? what was your force distance set for? did you have ksea set for force at your force distance?in any event, this will be fixed nicely in the next point release of rc and as

Hi jd. I have my force set for 60 miles. Otto was taking care of comms, so I assume she called for the weather at 50 miles as usual. Any idea when the update for RC3 and AS will be released?

Good deal, I'll be looking. :-wave

I had the same problem with FSMeteo last night. So i Guess it is not active sky but RC v3.0

>I had the same problem with FSMeteo last night. So i Guess >it is not active sky but RC v3.0 And I've had the problem with FSMeteo, with ActiveSky WxRE, but *without* Radar Contact V3. For me, the common thread is AdvDisp as I only installed AdvDisp last week and never had the problem prior to the install. I updated to AdvDisp 1.97 and just experienced the problem on KATL-KMIA flight (problem began about 30 minutes into the flight - I saved and re-loaded the situation to get things straight). Also, its not only surface winds, its all weather updates. I'm flying with Project Magenta and the navigation display never updates wind velocity/direction when the problem occurs. And the FS outside view does not reflect the reported cloud conditions. When the problem occurred I paused FS and went into the weather display and noted that the FSMeteo/ActiveSky reported updates were not registering.-michael

Michael, I think you are correct. Just mailed Peter Dowson and JD about it to make sure the investigate it further. Advdisplay gave me some really strange problems (weather realated) and updating to v1.97 solved it. But it was ok before that (using 1.96).. so it's possibly a Advdisplay problem.

I have had several email transactions with Peter Dowson on this subject and I believe that I can rule out AdvDisp as the culprit. Interestingly, Peter suggested I try running without my Internet connection active - I have do so - 4 trials and have not had the problem occur. With the Internet connection active, I had the problem occur in 6 of 8 flights. I am using Internet Connection Sharing so my next test will be to reconfigure my network to eliminate the shared connection.Another point Peter made was that my WideFS log files showed intermittent dropped connections at regular intervals - roughly every 10 minutes. Guess what!? 10 minutes is my weather download interval! Will report what I find when I find it...-michael
