Winds aloft not working

Featured Replies

All day I haven't been able to download winds aloft, either online or offline. Is there an alternative source? I think FS Meteo uses at least 2 sources in case one is down.Cheers,Eric

Still doesn't work for me.When I try downloading offline the Metar and TAF download fine. But when it says "Downloading FD winds" I get the following error message:Error or timeout downloading cycle.I use a DSL connection and have no problem getting to any websites, so I'm not sure why this is happening.I didn't change any settings or anything else, one day it was working the next day it wasn't.Are there any files I can check?

Can someone explain why I can download METAR's and TAF's but not winds aloft????

Hi, try manually downloading them to see if it is a connection problem.. www.aviationweather.gov, standard brief, FD winds aloft (then choose a US area on the MAP)... Let me know how that works.. thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

No wonder. =( I can't access www.aviationweather.govI can ping this URL and it's resolved to: 204.227.127.33But even with the IP I can't get in. Strange indeed!I live in Spain and this is the first website I can't access.

Hi,It is possible you are blocked for some reason, either by aviationweather.gov or by your ISP. I suggest starting with your ISP, letting them know the text and IP address and have them investigate... Let me know the results of this, I'd like to document it for any others having similar problems. Thanks!-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

If I was blocked that would be news to me, I can get into www.whitehouse.gov no problem, even .mil domains. It seems like the aviationweather is on a crap server or it's getting too much traffic. My browser says opening page and it never loads...Are there any alternative sources for winds aloft? NOAA, maybe?

Hi, aviationweather.gov IS NOAA. No other sources until v1.2 (due in a couple weeks) which will also include full international winds aloft data.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

It is NOAA....that explains it. Used to live next door to them in Boulder. =PI had been using ActiveSky for 2-3 weeks without any problems until last Monday. Oh well.Looking forward to the update

Eric Thornton

Damien:I am.I just installed the update and now I cannot get ActiveSky to download and end a cycle. I was downloading prior to the update with no problem (which is not to say that it was working correctly with FSFlightMax).I am able to download using InfoMETAR with no problem, so I don't think that I have started having firewall problems.Looks like I am stuck in the mud.Wilson

Hi,You can manually finish the creation of the cycle files, this is one way to get around this... For winds aloft just use an existing working one (which may not be accurate but at least METAR will be available until the update). NOAA may also clear up, it appears to be having problems the past couple days..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Damien,Finally got Winds Aloft to load. Not sure what the problem was, but restarting the third time got everything loaded, with proper weather showing up. Went to SPZO and found plenty of rain. But now I have another problem -- no radar returns. Nothing has been changed, other than the update. I used to have returns, now I have none. Tilt is okay. No changes to settings in FSFlightMax.ini . Active Sky checked in Menu and "None" checked in file source.I have a big decision to make here -- either give up my day job and devote full time to making Active Sky work with FSFlightMax or going back to FSMeteo or purchasing Weather Center v1.3.Man, these are tough times. . .

Looks like I get to keep my day job. Also, I don't have to go over to the dark side (for $15) ;-) .I have no idea why, other than exiting and restarting FS2k2 and ActiveSky, but now I'm getting returns, including lightning.Time for a beer.Wilson
