Metar Stations in New Zealand

Featured Replies

Hi there I have started using WXRE for all my flights now (the ability to get the arrival wx enroute is a joy) and am very pleased with its performance. However, I do most of my flying in New Zealand and it seems to be severely lacking in weather stations for this country, a total of 5 weather stations by default, whereas tiny little Belgium (no offence!) gets a whopping 15.I live in Nelson (NZNS) and the nearest weather station in WXRE is always Wellington (NZWN)some 73 miles away. The weather is almost always different between these two places and I would like to be able to use the weather for NZNS. In order to try and fix this problem I have added NZNS to the ICAO.txt file and WXRE correctly identifies me as being closest to it. However, it never finds the weather information and always switches to NZWN before it finished initialising. Can you advise me if your update is likely to increase the number of weather stations in the area. If not, can you advise me of any possible solutions to the problem. Thanks for your time and a quality product.Jim Cross

Hi Jim!The problem is that NOAA does not use many METAR reports for Australia OR New Zealand. They seem to use only the larger ones. The solutions is to use a better source for METAR information (other than NOAA), either as replacement or in addition to NOAA when flying in these areas. I am working on this as we speak...-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table
