Can I get a refund? (public letter to Damian Clark)

Dear Damian Clark,Since you obviously will not tolerate criticism of your product of any kind (having warned me not to attempt such in a previous thread below), I will consent to your 'warning' if you simply give me my money back for a defective and misrepresented product.Activesky has had defective issues from the beginning and subsequent updates have failed to fix a number of problems. Consider this analogy: if I purchase a new car and find out that the headlights don't work correctly I happily return to the dealer for repairs under warranty. Things do happen of course, mechanical defects are a part of life and it is entirely reasonable to accomodate the dealership in facilitating the repair of my newly purchased vehicle. However, upon receiving my repaired car, I find that the headlights are fixed but now the brakes don't work. Again, it's reasonable to afford the dealership another chance to repair my new vehicle again and I do so. Upon receiving my car from repair yet again, the brakes are fixed but now the headlights are malfunctioning as before. At this point, would it be entirely unreasonable to send a letter of concern to the owner of the car dealership from which I purchased my vehicle voicing criticism of the service I was receiving? Apparently in your opinion Damian, the answer is in the affirmative. I think you are being unreasonable with your attitude toward me sir.Concerning misrepresentation of your product, you state among other features that Activesky is: Compatible with Radar Contact Version 3Compatible with FS2002 built-in ATCWill produce smooth cloud and transitionsIn fact, Activesky is not fully compatible with either Radar Contact 3 or FS2002's ATC ATIS reporting capabilities. Radar Contact 3's use of the adventure display module that is shared with Activesky's 'flightwatch' feature further precludes use of destination surface observations when Activesky is in use. Although you have stated that Radar Contact 3 is due to be updated in the future to fix this issue, your website mentions nothing about the current aforementioned incompatibility at this time. In fact sir, you have misrepresented your product in this regard by stating that Activesky is FULLY compatible with Radar Contact 3 and FS2002's built-in ATC. In fact, Activesky is not currently fully compatible with either of these aforementioned ATC products. Damian, you have failed to detail this fact on your website promoting Activesky's listed features.Damian, you state that Activesky produces 'smooth' cloud transitions. I will concede that this is a relative interpretation, however, I have yet to experience what could be construed in reasonable terms as a 'smooth' transition in any of my flights with ActiveSky. In fact, Activesky cloud transitions are commonly abrupt with entire layers dissappearing at a time instantly. I have experienced these instantaneous cloud transitions with numerous cloud formations, including cumulus broken, scattered, and additionally status overcast. I have used all settings as specified in your included Activesky documentation without success in resolving the aforementioned cloud transition issue. I must therefore conclude that if Activesky cannot produce consistant 'smooth' cloud transitions and at least preclude the occurance of entire status and broken layers disappearing from view instantaneously, that Activesky is again being misrepresented in this regard. Sir, you are in business for a profit. Your customers are legally entitled to a reasonable expectation of your products capabilities based upon specified feature lists used to promote your product. If you will not harbor criticism and maintain a dialogue with dissatisfied customers as should reasonably be expected, I have no desire to communicate with you further. If you see fit to refund my purchase of Activesky I will see no further need to mention any of the above issues again in any context on any public or private forum.I have already erased all traces of the program from my computer and I await your response.

Do you know how ridiculous you post sound. The thing is 14 bucks for god sake, and the man is doing his best updating the product. Give Damien a break and loosen up a bit and give him some time. ActiveSky is not perfect right now, I agree but it will be. Mike

...also what are you in such a hurry for?Mike

Have to agree with Mike here.More or less understand your disappointment towards the product, but all is relative. We're talking a few bucks here, not a "once-in-a-lifetime-investment".However, I do agree that information provided should stroke with what's delivered, but I only see that happen with products costing a factor 1000 or more and even then I see worse mistakes than this one. So:If you expect a 100% perfect, home-made product for these few lousy bucks, you're up for a serious reality-check.There are worse things in life.Gideon

Guys, a cardinal rule on the internet is "DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS."This person has a total of 11 posts; literally all of them is in this forum only. I'd expect someone with his apparent knowledge to post in other forums also. And all his posts follow the same pattern; they either praise FS Meteo (which incidentally is now at version 5.2)or criticize ActiveSky. Obviously this is someone with an ax to grind. Then note that there is no profile or visible e-mail address and you can only come to one conclusion.

a new version of advdisp.dll will be available shortly. this will allow both our programs to co-exist using the same display. this issue is waiting peter dowson's release of the .dll, not on a fix to rc or active sky.the only incompatibility with rc, is fixed in the soon to be released version 3.01 of rc (which is in beta testing).

"Anakin",Constructive criticism is one thing, your posts have had little value to help me address whatever problems you are having... "Full compatibility" with RC3 is something that has been growing, and the first version of wxRE included all compatibility that was available. Currently there is a bug that prevents a certain newer feature - auto arrival select - to work properly. This is what the latest version of wxRE fixes and the soon to be released RC3.01 will address. You can also see at the top of this forum there is a way to test the RC3.01 update by contacting John Dekker.I am sorry you are so dissatisfied with the product. Just now I am getting insight to your problems and you have not given me a chance to address them. Cloud transitions... Entire broken layers disappearing - this should not happen, and I would like to solve this (and any other) problem for you, if you will send me an email at [email protected] and include some screenshots for me. Also please confirm you are running the newest 1.94 ADVDISP (there are two 1.94 versions, you need the latest one)."Anakin", I am doing all I can to help you and would like to continue to do so, but first things first, you need to maintain a constructive dialog - as your attacks are simply not tolerable. I will not issue a refund. But rather I offer to address each of your concerns individually until you are satisfied with the product and feel you got your $15 worth. Please send me that e-mail, list the issues you have, and be polite. I will extend the same courtesy and look forward to reversing your dissatisfaction, if you let me.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table
