scenery wipeout

Featured Replies

All of a sudden when I select Active Sky from the program files and return back to the sim,it has wiped all scenery out with just the a/c and blue sky.Going back out and shutting off the program restores the scenery.Would appreciate your feedback Howard

Hi,wxRE doesn't affect scenery, but you may be seeing a VSKY layer when above it (a solid overcast cirrus layer).. VSKY should not be used with wxRE - please see the docs. Let me know if this helps. I have the same problem. It only started after I purchased and installed ActiveSky. If I switch from FS to look at ActiveSky I find that on returning back to FS that I have to do a ctrl/enter to switch from full screen and back again to get the screen back to normal.

Hi,This sounds like a video driver issue, or perhaps you are overworking your video card. wxRE doesn't do anything except SET the weather in FS2002 so you would notice the same thing if you set it manually (in other words this is not wxRE's issue).I would suggest trying a new video driver or perhaps turning down some sliders (incl. cloud density).-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Hi Damian.I did get this strange scenery wipeout/deep blue effect with wxRE running only. If I use FS2002 standard wx, it doesn't happen. So it seems to be a wxRE "unknown feature". It is absolutely random (3 times in 15 flights), not related to time of day of the sim (happened in clear skies in daylight and cloudy skies at night), nor geographical area (happened over France and over Austria). Note that it happened either with or without SkyWorld (V-Sky disabled).Enrico.

Hi,Once again, wxRE does not effect scenery. It's only effect in FS2002 is via FSUIPC which sets weather conditions. If you are seeing blue sky below you, this is a KNOWN problem when you have VSKY type cloud layers installed (even if you are not using VSKY). You must uninstall VSKY layers. There is a download by FSW which will do this for you. Sometimes this is tricky - many users are not able to uninstall FSW once installed, you have to manually do it if you do not use this special download. If you are getting "missing" scenery tiles (deep blue sky below you is a different issue) then this is caused by overloading your video card. Again this will not be caused by wxRE directly but will be because your weather settings are overloading your computer. Your cloud set will have a lot to do with this. You need to turn down sliders.Enrico, you mentioned ONLY when wxRE running, but you didn't mention what the weather was being set to with wxRE or without. I suspect you have a VSKY cirrus graphic being drawn at about 10,000ft because you had VSKY installed at one point and had a ~10K cloud layer in the METAR with conditions suggesting CIRRUS. Can you confirm this? Just keep ASwxRE unloaded, go into FS, set a high cirrus layer, and watch..-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Enrico, For those have the problem with the "blue scenery whipeout"Just Download the: Disabling V-Sky files, available here: http://fsw.simflight.com/FSkySe.htmlCopy the bmp to your fs2002texture and overwrite, all will be fixed.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

Hi Damian,I'll install the disabling VSky option from FSW and see if it gets all OK.Anyway, my deepblue wipeout occurred (for what I remember !) with a few and scattered clouds below 8000 ft once and once with broken at about 3000 ft with few cirrus over 30000 ft. No deepblue effect using standar FS2002 wx even with heavy clouds (4+ layers) and cirrus overcast. The video card seems not overloaded, frames are up to 18+ per second and simulation is very smooth even on heavy sceneries such as Simflyers EDDF with full statics and a lot of AI traffic.I'll keep you updated if the VSky disabling option works.Thanks.Enrico.

OK, thanks for the help. Installing the "disabling VSky" worked well (at least in the last 2 flights to date !)and no "scenery wiperout" effect anymore !!Enrico
