Winds Aloft

Featured Replies

http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpgHi,posted this in the beta test forum, but not sure if it posted correctly.I fly exclusively the 767 PIC panel.I use FSUIPC v2.95I run squawkbox, AIbridge and Activesky WXRE.In FSUIPC Wind Transition settings I have transitions set to 1degree/knot per 10 seconds. However I see some wild fluctuations on the EHSI wind vector display at times. It spins like the bottle in the spinning the bottle game. The Wind Speed Read Out from the FMC also changes rapidly. The SAT temperature fluctuates by about a degree.I experience really bad increases/decreases in airspeed - causing me to bust speed restrictions etc. When it settles down, ActiveSky works great - it's just this is rather annoying.Would like to hear from other users of the 767 PIC panel with ActiveSky and what settings they are using.

I seem to have solved the problem.A clean install of Active Sky & FSUIPC did the trick.I think that the FSUIPC dll may have been corrupted becuase of the amount of changes I have done recently when beta testing a new development for the 767 PIC panel.Markhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Mark,You might also look to update your FSUIPC to the latest: 2.972Hope this helps,Jim

Jim,had been at v2.972, but switched back to v2.95 to remove some problems with the TCAS display I am beta testing.Mark

OK, fair enough.

some problems with the TCAS display Mark could you elaborate that please. I'm finishing a new AIBridge and woul be interested in possible problems.ThanksJos

Jose,It's a new TCAS gauge being developed specifically for use with the PIC panel. The problems are not related to AIBridge. They are to do with changes that Pete Dowson has made to the internal workings of FSUIPC, going from timing based to FPS based. In FSUIPC v2.95 when using AIBridge all of the TCAS targets remain as a constant solid display when the traffic is within range. Using the later FPS based FSUIPC versions, there is some blinking of the TCAS traffic on the displays - it flashes on and off.Hope this helpsMark

Yes it helps and a lot. I was wondering why the new mails saying the blinking targets problem. That could be the reason, I'm now forcing FSUIPC 6 seconds refresh. I went to test and the constant data on AIBridge sometimes disapeared from traffic tools table. I think I will have to decrease the refresh rate. Anyway There is a new interface that allows to get AIBridge data directly and bypass the FSUIPC table. Send me an E-Mail if you are interested.Damian, not exacly ActiveSky support, I'm going to test if this could be a problem for wake turbulence.Jos

Jose, email sent thru the Forum Email system.Very interested in testing.Mark

Hi there!I am having the same sort of problems. I do not know if it is a ActiveSky problem or a FSUIPC problem or a combination of both.I cruise along for example at M0.76 @ FL300, I receive an update in the weather and the winds have changed. Now depending on the direction and wind speed change it can take me down to M0.70 or up to M0.83 for example.I never had this happen to my knowledge when I started using ActiveSky. I remember receiving a weather update, winds change and the only thing that would move is the GS indication, both the IAS and Mach indicators did not move when the winds changed. For the record I have the latest FSUIPC V2.972 and just did a clean install of Activesky RE to V1.15 and FSUIPC with the recommended settings. The transition is set at 1kt or deg / sec. Thanks for any help,Karl K

Karl,This is a real world fact. Especially at FL30 those winds can really get you moving or really slow you down. Now you know why real world pilots pay attention to those winds. Nothing wrong with your set-up.Hope this helps,Jim

Karl,I changed my settings in FSUIPC to 1 deg/knot per 10 seconds. This dampens the chnage in the upper winds and makes them less abrupt, allowing the autothrottle to maintain the desired speed.Mark

Thanks Mark I will try that.It is sort of a double hit you take when both the wind speed and direction change. In certain circumstances you see your IAS go down 1.5ish+ per second and then shoot up the other way a few min later when a different station loads.Ok this may be a stupid question when you are flying at cruise altitude do you turn your "Update Metar on New Station" off and turn it back on when you start your approach in to grab the latest weather info? Because this is the one thing I never understood about FS. When you are at cruise alt or above the transition alt 18k here in North America your pressure setting gets switched back to 29.92. You receive a weather update and your pressure setting changes as well. And you see that you are say at FL330 but you look at your real alt and is FL335 or so.Oh well that's my little rant,Thanks for your help!!Karl K

I leave "Update" turned on because I don't mind the clouds transition being a little fast.Hope this helps,Jim
