March 13, 200323 yr Okay, I think the new 1.6 version is pretty cool. Now it would be even cooler if I could figure out why I'm the only one reporting problems with the voice feature. Everytime I tune in 122.0 on my COM radio, the ActiveSky program stops responding.I'm using WinME, P3 850mhz, Geforce2MX 400, 386RAM, Mcaffee enabled, FSUIPC 2.972...and no other addons running at the same time as my FS2k2 and ActiveSky.I loaded up a Baron 58 (default) aircraft and tuned in 122.0 on my COM as shown here:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e7011962714d253.jpgHere's what my "Runtime Status" screen looks like at that point:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e7011fb27c8c6d9.jpgNote: I want to point out that I'm aware that the "Runtime Status" is indicating that my COM 1 is not set to 122.0, but rather "122.70". You'll have to take my word for it that the COM 1 was set to 122.0 at the time of testing because everytime I set it to 122.0 and attempted the same test, ActiveSky would stop responding and I couldn't get ActiveSky re-maximized to even take a screenshot to prove my point. If I give it a second, I hear the entire voiced AWOS just as I should...so there's nothing to complain about, right? Not exactly...after I plug in my CH Product Yoke and CH Product Rudder pedals in (USB) and attempt to listen to 122.0, the voice AWOS will start and then everything will freeze.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e70126028724c19.jpgOn occasion, I have chosen "Cancel" to exit that window and the voice AWOS continued for just a second or two longer before eventually everything locked up once again. Leaving me the only option to quit ActiveSky. A restart of ActiveSky, a total restart of FS2002, and yes...even a restart of the computer yields the same results over and over. After attempting to access the voice AWOS via 122.0, operation of FS2002 can only be continued if I close ActiveSky completely down. Here's my "Options" screen:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e7012f329b70fa7.jpgAnd here's my "Runtime Status" screen after plugging in my USB CH Product Yoke/Rudder pedals:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e70130129d0e4d1.jpgCan anyone help? Thanks.
March 13, 200323 yr I have the same issue, but I suspect it has (in my case) something to do with using ActiveSky over WideFS. Don't know if you use it, but I do.Those soundfiles are on the 'remote' machine (where AS resides) and have to be played back on the FS2K2 machine. That obviously doesn't work for some reason, hence when I dial in 122.00 FS freezes....Damian, can you comment?Using:AS 1.6FSUIPC 2.972WideFS 5.3AdvDisplay 2.01
March 13, 200323 yr HiI run ActiveSky on a remote machine via WideFS and the voice feature works flawlessly on my system. I dial 122.00 on the panel on my main FS machine and after a while, approx 3-5 secs, my second machine responds with the appropriate voice message.Latest WideFS running on IPX/SPX, FSUIPC 2.972Regards Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
March 13, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi,Thanks for your report and info..To confirm, the problem is that everything works OK until you use your USB game controllers? Then it locks up during voice playback?ASwxRE uses the "Playsound" function which is an internal windows sound function. It is the same thing that plays "dings" and other system message sounds. If there is a problem specifically related to sound playback, then it would most likely not be isolated to wxRE, but instead to windows in general. This sounds like a sound card driver problem or IRQ conflict.I would suggest this:Update any game controller/USB software you haveUpdate your sound card driverUpdate your video card driver (just for good measure!)See if that helps. If still no, then try this test:Go to Start, settings, control panel, sounds, and play back any of the existing sounds repeadedly.. see if you get the same problem. If so, you can see this is not a wxRE problem but some other kind of conflict on your system. Please try the above suggestions and let me know how you make out.. we can take it from there. March 14, 200323 yr HiIf I may jump in here. I was having the same exact problem after building my new computer. After some time I found that if I turned down hardware acceleration under advanced audio properties in the sounds and multimedia folder under control panel, the problem disappeared. This was even tho I was having no problems with any other sounds.Hope this helps,Ed
April 28, 200323 yr Well, I finally got my ActiveSky working the way it was meant to work. I didn't solely upgrade my computer for only the purpose of running ActiveSky...but, that's what it took to get it to work properly. I'm very happy to have the voice feature working the way it was intended.
