New user ActiveSky v1.7, Help!!

Featured Replies

Hi,I want to apologize up front for any dumb mistakes or questions that I am making, but I am kinda new to this. I recently purchased for the first time ActiveSky v 1.7. I got it all loaded up and going.... no problems there. I am currently running FS2002 Professional Edition, Pentium 4, Windows XP, 512 memory and Nvidia Ti 4200 64 mb, FSUIPC v2.972.My Issues are:Problem 1- Where are the directions to install FSFlightMax and Radar Contact v3? I've downloaded it, and unzipped it into my FS Modules file assuming that was correct. I found no instructions w/ the download. Also, I did not understand how to setup the settings so it can run with ActiveSkyv v1.7.Problem 2- I am having a hard time figuring out why I cant reach my cruise altittude. As I pass 03000 feet, my PSS A320 seems to be struggling to reach 250 knots and climbing incredibly slow. It seems like there is something holding the plane. As a test, I flew from KMDW to KEWR, distance of 698nm. I could not climb pass 11000 ft, which took me about 200 nm miles to reach. Before take off I had my pilot heat ON. I flew the whole flight at flt lvl 110. When I started to decend the plane was decending very slowly as if it didn't want to decend. Every now and the I would get scrolling message of winds aloft. At touch down on runway 22L, I had a wind at 247 at 83. Which made the plane land as a chopper. I dont understand? To me it sounds like a configuration problem??? Am I doing something wrong or missing something??ThanksJT

JT,Please feel free to post any questions. We were all new to this at one time or another.FlightMax ends up in its own folder in the Modules folder. Both FlightMax and ActiveSky have specific directions in order to get them to work together.I don't have RC3, but I'm sure there are directions that were included with the download. Please upgrade your FSUIPC to 2.975.Try some flights with some default planes and Active Sky.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

JT,I'm just trying to help on the PSS Airbus issue (for the wxRE issues, Jim and Damian are supporting us in an excellent way), since I'm using this excellent add-on since about 4 months and I've gone through every kind of problem (just for my fault !) in the first flights.Did you check your flight plan was correct (eg: correct crusing level in the INIT page) ? If for instance you had 11000 ft in the crz level, you won't be able to climb higher even if you put 35000 ft in the MCP window. Did you get managed or selected altitudes ? Did you have your autothrottle on ? How about your flap and trim settings ? It seems a very idiot question, but sometimes...did you raise your gear ? Sorry for this question...Did you get a flex take off thrust or a full thrust one ?How was your load (I assume you use the handy load config tool) and your fuel ?Maybe a combination of incorrect settings could have produced this "lazy" A320...Hope this helps.Enrico.

Thanks for the reply Jim!!Jim, I double checked to see what version of FSUIPC, I was using and I am using v 2.975, which I downloaded from the web when I purchased AvticeSky. On my origianl letter I mentioned a earlier version, I am sorry for that.Last night I tried a test flight from KORD to KTPA. I DID NOT load AvticeSky, as a test run. I downloaded the weather from the internet as I usually do. I used one of the default B777. Same thing happened again!! As I pass 10000 ft, it seems that I cant climb any higher..... I turned off the auto pilot and auto throttle, and tried climbing manually. What happen is that I ended up stalling the plane and crashing, with a vertical climg of 2000 fpm. This all started since I loaded ActiveSky a couple days ago. I dont get it??? Its really wierd.I dont know much about the actual FS2002 software, modules, etc... bought it seems to me that something changed in the settings of FS2002.Should I try uninstalling AvtiveSky, and see if it still occurs???I hope this helps a little. Thanks for your timeJulian

Enrico,Thanks for the reply and the pointers.... I really enjoy PSS A319,320,321 series. Its probably one of the most realistic add-on so far that I have tried. I purchased PSS add-on in January and I fly it almost everyday.I got the whole concept of flying down and dealing w/ the FMC, Routes etc.... My probelm started occuring ONLY after I installed ActiveSky. Yesterday I used the default B777 as a test run from KORD to KTPA, and I did not load ActiveSky. I downloaded the weather through FS2002 and the same thing happened again. As soon as I reach about 10000 ft, I could not climb any higher, it seems like I have something holding the plane. I disengaged my auto pilot and auto throttle, and tried to climb manually. I pitched the nose up the 18 degrees and I started to lose speed and ended up stalling the plane and crashing!!I dont get it. I am concedering uninstalling AvtiveSky and see if the problem stiil continues... if it does, something was changed in the settings of FS2002 when I installed ActiveSky and I am probably going to re-install FS2002.Do you use ActiveSky?? Did you have any problems??Thanks for your timeJT

Julian,Well let's look at this one step at a time. You used a default plane, so that rules out the PSS model. You used MS weather so that rules out wxRE interacting with your flight. I hate to ask this and I'm NOT trying to be funny here, but are your pilot skills OK? Pleasssseeeee don't anyone take that the wrong way! Were you able to hand fly the heavies before installing AS? I'm just trying to get more info. Are the FSUIPC settings correct? If you have the V1.1 installation files, go ahead and uninstall and see if this helps. Please let me know how you are doing. I'm really trying to help!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

JT, Just a long shot, but have you checked your aircraft wieght? Many aircraft can't climb very well if they are overloaded, and with these pax jets, they usually default to full fuel load and full pax (which is not realistically do-able!). Will full pax and cargo load on a jet like the A320 I'm just guessing here but you shouldn't be able to carry more than about 50% fuel. Another thing that can be introduced by any weather add-on is realistic temperatures and pressures, which can result in higher density altitudes.. end result = less aircraft performance.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

JT,that's a weird thing you report ! I have installed all the wxRE versions up from 1.1 to 1.7 and I can reassure you, no problem like the ones you're reporting. I'm routinely flying the PSS Airbuses, 777s and 747s and the excellent Embrare ERJ by Bill Grabowski and I did not get this kind of problem. Check you FSUPIC settings and check your aircrafts weights, I don't see other issues that could explain that. I'm using wxRE offline (eg: I download weather files and then fly with the wxRE minimized and offline), always clearing the fs2k2 wx before launching wxRE and, a part some minor bugs (usually due to corrupt or bad weather files), I'm very very happy with wxRE+FS.Hope this helps.Enrico.

Jim,No Offense taken.... I thank you for trying to help me.Regarding your questions:Yeah, I have been flying since FS98 came out. I used to be involved alot with virtual airlines w/ FS2000 ( Continental Virtual Airlines to be exact). When I stopped flying for them sometime around 1999/2000, I had about 700 hours logged. My problem was that I was never into downloading all these add-ons, except planes and airports. I used to have a hard time figuring out how to install the panels sometimes. So I always stayed away from more intercate downloads. Thats one of the reasons that I always preferred spending the cash and just purshasing more interactive add-ons. I just dont really have the time and patience to figure out how to configure everything.Regarding having the settings correct w/ FSUIPC. I think I do.... I downloaded it and just installed it into my FS02/Modules folder. I didn't really do anything to it. Except when I started FS02 for the first time after I installed ActiveSky, I went to the Modules and inputed the setting according to the directions that came w/ ActiveSky in a PDF format direction guide. I printed all 60 pages of the directions so I didnt have to go back in forth.See, now you are confusing me a little. I don't recall downloading v1.1, this is the first time I downloaded FSUIPC. Now if it came w/ one of my add-on purshases and installed automatically I don't know.F.Y.I - couple add ons that I currently have:- GB Airports, PSS A320 Professional, World airports, World Airliners, Captain Speaking 2002, Fly to Hawaii, Tampa Airport.I'm debating on uninstalling ActiveSky and re-installing it.Well hope this can give you a little direction on helping me.Your time is greatly appreciated.Hope to hear from you,Julian

Enrico,Thanks for the pointers Enrico. No, I got all those (FUEL, ZFW, BLOCK etc..)items figured out on the Airbus. This is happening w/ all planes, even the default ones. Plus, I was flying fine before I installed AvtiveSky. Problem only started after I installed AS.I think that I am missing something or I have input a setting incorrectly. Since I am not the most knowledgable person in the FS2002 configuration and understanding on what exactly is the purpose of FSUIPC and downloading, I believe that this must be the problem. Thats why I prefer purchasing the add-ons so I dont have to deal w/ configuring things in the FS02 folders. The Problem - Figuring out what I did wrong...... headache....I used the PDF Manual Guide that came with ActiveSky, to input the settings after you start FS02, in the toolbar/ Modules. Besides that, I really did not touch anything else. After I downloaded FSUIPC, the directios said to move the .dll file to your FS2002/Modules folder. Thats pretty much what I did.Well I hope I gave you some information that may or my not help me.Enrico thanks for your time and patience.Take careJT

JT,Thanks for your calm response. We have such a wide variety of users that I had to ask what I did. OK, back to your situation. First, FSUIPC is a piece of software that allows certain add-ons to communicate with FS. It also fixes some of the minor "bugs" in FS. At this point, I would say go ahead and un-install your version 1.7(yes, I did mess up there in an earlier post) and see what happens. Please let us all know how this comes out! Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hello,Reference your aircraft not climbing through 11000 Ft, looks like you have set your settings under: options, international to metric(altitude in metres), instead of US system or metric (altitudes in feet). 11000 Mtrs equeals 36088 Feet.Regards,

Dang, that is something we didn't think of. Thanks very much for the heads up.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Wow, I never throught of thatI am going to have to check my settings.Today I just went through the re-installation process of FS2002 and my add ons, because I could not figure out why I could not climb any higher and also I was stalling my planes.Help me out here:Change the settings in FS2002, ActiveSky or FSUIPC??Can you give me some guidance. Thanks for your time.JT

Jim,I see someone posted a message suggesting to check my settings out. That didn't even cross my mind.......bummerStatus:Before I read the messages today, I went through the process of what we talked about earlier, removing ActiveSky, and see if the process continued. Which it did. :(I ended up re-installing FS 2002 and my add-ons today. Everthing went back to normal and I was able to fly again.I am kinda nervouse now on re-installing ActiveSky, even though I never checked the settings (Altitude in meters vs Altitude in feet).I would like some pointers on getting it right this time...and again I want to apolgize for the dumb questions to follow.Currently I have FSUIPC v2.85 in my Modules folder. I have downloaded FSUIPC v 2.975, not installed yet. Also, if I right click on the .dll from the v2.975 and go to properties and then version, it states v2.974, does that matter??Also, in the FSUIPC v2.975 folder, there are 2 yellow world globes, one stating "WeatherSet" and the other "TrafficLook" by Peter Dawson. What are those for?? Should I do anything with them? Should I install FSUIPC first and then move on to ActiveSky installation??Again, thank you so much for your time an patience.JT
