still dissapointed with AS2004, please help!

I think this program has tons of potential. Yet I am a bit dissapointed. First of all, the radical wind shifts are much, much, much worse since I started with the program. They are shifting me all over the place. Second, the clouds still pop up out of nowhere. I just took off from EWR and while on the ground the skies were few clouds at 4000 and winds were out of the northwest at 27kts. I took off and a bunch more clouds just popped in and then once I got above them it started to rain....yet there were no clouds above me. I do not see the transitions between weather conditions either. I am using FSUIPC (latest version), I have cleared all weather I load my flight plan set everything up like in the manual, and I still get these bad problems. Please help as I am a bit frustrated! Thanks,Brad

As I understand it the wind shear / shifting issue is being addressed as we speak. I'm not sure about the cloud issue. I've haven't checked the threads relating to this, as my biggest issue has been with the winds.Anyway, hang in there, I'm sure they'll get it sorted.RegardsRussell Jourdain (NZL007/ZK-RHJ)

Brad,Sorry you are having trouble. Please post your AS2004.ini file. I need to look over all your settings. In FSUIPC I hope you are using weather minimums. We'll get you working better!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi,Sorry you are having trouble. Please uncheck Global Writes, this may be a big help for you. Also make sure all weather smoothing options are OFF in FSUIPC.We are working on some fixes for problems as reported, including harsh wind shifts in some situations where there should be none (i.e. when using Extended destination winds force, and when in the destination area and using route based wind smoothing). Thanks!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg

I have FSUIPC wind and pressure smoothing ON, and AS2k4 wind smoothing OFF. I have not had any issues with the Windshear since.I have not noticed the clouds issue. I see clouds gradually forming in the distance. Check that your cloud draw distance matches the Suppression Range and that Use Local Suppression is enabled.HTH,

I flew today and changed a few things. I got to KMCI and it should have been rainy and overcast. I say broken clouds at about 18000. ATIS told me it should have been overcast at 7000 with rain. I got down to about 8000 and it was clear. At 7000 all of the sudden I was in a cloud and in rain. Then the ceiling was low, 3000ft. I dont get what is going on. Please help. I posted my FSUIPC and AS2004 settings in prior posts!Brad

Brad,I went through your files and I need you to do each of the following:1. In FSUIPC use weather minimums, as another poster suggested.2. Make sure your Local Supperssion Range value is equal to your cloud draw distance in FS.3. You are running in Offline mode. Why? Change Online Updates to on.4. Turn Global Area Writes off.5. Turn TAF processing off.Let us know what happens!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Jim wrote:>>3. You are running in Offline mode. Why? Change Online Updates>to on.>Is there some reason why we shouldn't be using offline mode? The reason I bought ActiveSky 1.8 originally was because I could fly offline and still have dynamic weather.

No, Offline Mode works great! I needed to ask in this situation because his conditions may not be matching.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

I did everything you suggested. Flying from KMCI-KORD the flight was supposed to be cloudy overcast the whole way. Apon takeoff things are fine, in fact they always have been. My problem is at the destination. I went from flying over a blanket of clouds to clear sky below me, with broken clouds in the distance. As i descended, i still had clear skies around me, then all of the sudden I was in a huge cloud. Then it goes to clear. Am I doing something wrong? Nothing stays the same like the print out says. Im frustrated!!!

I am in the middle of a flight from ORD-GSO. ORD is reporting overcast through 5800 and snow. AS showed that nicely. I level off at 29000 and still see overcast...good. Then bam going from overcast throughout the screen to nothing except a few clouds in the distance. I look behind me and its only a few clouds. I dont think i am doing anything wrong, but i must be.
