AS2004 and PMDG: IAS drops to Zero

Featured Replies

Folks:I know there is a post below describing this exact same problem with the PSS A320. Turning on Pitot Heat resolved the issue. However, it still occurs with the PMDG 737, and it seems to be a issue only with AS2004 (IAS dropping to zero does not hapeen with default weather or FSMeteo). With the PMDG, they have the pitot heat correctly setup. It has been confirmed, thru FSUIPC, that pitot is indeed ON. However, the airspeed still drops to zero when "severe" icing is encountered (at least that was the term someone usedin the PMDG forum). So, is AS2004 by any chance throwing "severe" icing at FS9?And, if not, would it be possible to have the option of turning off icing all together? Thanks,James

I agree that PMDG does have the pitot heat switch set up right. But what is weird is that you can hit Shift + H and that seems to work.

James,In your situation are all icing options turned off in FSUIPC? Also using de-icing along with pitot heat increases effectiveness.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Jim; In the PMDG bird, with the pitot heat and engine A/I on, it's still possible to see the airspeed indicator drop. It appears that this is an FS2004 effect when operating in severe icing. I was able to reproduce the effect four times...during all of them, there was severe (level 5 if I remember from my notes) icing present...but only momentarily. It appears that any time severe icing is present, even pitot heat and engine A/I isn't enough. Turning off the "random icing in clouds" option in FSUIPC stopped that behavior until AS2004 showed up on the scene. When the IAS drops, it dorks the checklist sequencing in Flight Deck Companion severely...it takes its cues from indicated airspeed, and takes a lot of work getting the blasted thing synched back up after that. So...there's a real need to make sure that AS2004 and the FSUIPC AWI can be limited to prevent setting "severe" levels of icing in MSFS.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Washington, D.C.
