Violent Wake Turbulence

Featured Replies

Maybe it's because I'm a low time real world student pilot, but is it me or does the wake turb in FS generated by ActiveSky seem to be a bit excessive? I've been caught by wake turb twice now and it threw me wildly to the side, nearly 90 degress from my original heading. The wake turb I've necountered in real life wasn't any where near that bad. Maybe we were lucky and only encounted mild turb hence the relative easy recovery and not so bumpy ride.

Not to be rude, but this has been discussed previously. You're not the only one, and it appears that they are aware of the problem and that a fix will be in the soon to be released patch (wishful thinking on my part). There are some threads in here that provide assistance in toning down the behavior, but look for the patch to eliminate it.Myself, I've experienced wake turbulence from an aircraft that landed 6 miles in front of me that only manifested itself when I crossed the threshold, it was rather a boring approach until that point. The aircraft was thrown into the ground due to the pilots inability to adapt to the quickly changing wind situation. x(Jim

Sonja,Let me try! First, we don't care if a question has been asked a million times before. Number of threads tells us how many users are experiencing something and makes our job easier in keeping track of them. Wake can be strong depending on your plane and the plane(s) causing the wake. Remember that in FS it is possible that one or more planes could be causing WT. The only fix right now is to watch for planes and give yourself plenty of room. BTW, AS uses the reg. number to determine the type of plane. You can turn WT off, but I know this is not too realistic. In the release that is being tested we hope to offer more user defined options in this area.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky SupportAKA Jim "Bear" Skorna

First off I did do a search before I posted. I didn't find a sufficient answer.Secondly, I was expecting to encounter possible wake turbulence since I was #2 for landing behind a Lear 45. I lengthend my downwind so I would turn base above her descent path and pallned on touching down beyond her touchdown point. But as I said before, being a lowtime realworld pilot, I still have room for improvement in my own descent procedures and still caught the wake turbulence. So it isn't just my own preceptions, the simulate wake turb in FS generated by AS is too exagerated and is being looked into.Fortunately, I was high enough to regain control of the aircraft and still bring it down safely. Though I wonder if in RL the manuevers should have either ripped me from the sky, or torn my bird apart.

There is a turbulence scale factor in the FS9.CFG file (I believe, my partition with FS9 died and I have to re-install). In FS2K2 I had it turned down to 0.3.The question is does it also affect wake turbulence as well as weather induced turbulence.

Hi,The wake effect will not be affected by the turbulencescale value. MR1 has optons to facilitate toned-down wake effects as well as the old "very strong" effects..-DamianDamian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg
