February 18, 200422 yr Hi All,don't know if anyone has asked this before, but I did not see it addressed in the new FAQ. Since the file format of the saved weather sets is different from the old AS format which could be used with Flightmax I was wondering if there is a way to get the new better weather displayed in FSFlightmax.Sunny
February 18, 200422 yr Sunny,You have looked at Active Radar included with AS 2004 right? If you want to you can export .met files with an option in Active Radar and then point FlightMax to that file.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
February 19, 200422 yr Hi Jim,yeah I have looked at the Radar Display new to AS2004, but I like the view on Flightmax on the networked PC better because it leaves the FS PC recources to run the sim.Does the export feature give the file extension *.wx as it used to be with AS1.9 or does it remain a *.met file?In any case is this a setting I need to look at the config file for ??Thanks Stefan
February 19, 200422 yr OK fair enough! AR will generate a .met file. Start AR and go to Modes/Options and check ON the "enable met file generation" option. Pretty sure the .met file will be generated into your AR folder. Then point FltMax to this file.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support
February 20, 200422 yr Hi Jim,I'll try that Friday night when I get back to CA from Calgary. I have one more quick question just to be on the safe side. The option needs to be set in the Active Radar portion of AS2004 or in the applications config file ???If it's in AR it would seem that I am going from the WideFS pc to the FS PC and then back to the Wide FS PC for the Flightmax display. If that is the case maybe Damian could work in a direct export function for those of us out there that like to have their cake and eat it too ;-)Sunny
February 22, 200422 yr Hi Jim,I tried the export option in AR but it seems to be again causing problems for the FS9 PC. I have had a multitude of CTDs and was not able to figure out where if any file is being safed or if AR never gets that far.I think I am going to go back to FS9 Weather for a while and let Damian figure the bugs out that are being worked on in the first thread about the 1.1 release. Once that has been done I'll try a clean re-install and see what gives.Like I have said before I hope Damian can put the FSFlightmax Export function in the AS2004 portion of the program. This would eliminate workload for the FS PC if I understand the process correctly.Sunny
February 25, 200422 yr Ok here i am again. But this time it seems we can call this thing good.I was a little miffed when writing the last post but I just couldn't walk away from the problem. ;-)I read through some more of the other posts related to the Radar-WideFS issues and found one that mentioned deleting and rebuilding the FS9.cfg file.Since that was something I had not done yet I figured I give that a try and it seems to be the fix I was looking for. :-)The only thing left now is finding the met file and get it over to FSFlightmax and I am truely happy. Almost as happy as when flying my real world PA 28-235. But she is getting her annual right now so I am grounded ;-)So for all those that struggle with AS2004 and WideFS try the FS9.cfg thing. But make a copy of it first so you can copy all the controller settings back in the new one if it works out.Happy LandingsSunny
March 9, 200422 yr Hi Everyone, I have just registered to the forums to try to solve the same problem as experienced by Stefan with creating a .met file and would be interested to hear if he did eventually solve it. A few weeks ago I purchased FSUIPC and Weather Center 2. All worked pretty good but did notice some cloud pops so I have been following this forum with interest with a view to purchasing AS2004 once the wind shift and cloud pops issues were solved. I also like to use FS Flightmax and was under the impression that while not supported by AS2004 there should be a means of generating a .met file from Active Radar, and assumed that Stefan's problem might be an isolated one. This used to work OK when I used Weather Center 2. So I recently purchased AS2004 after deciding it would be an improvement after reading the good reports about MR1. I installed it and also installed MR1. This setup did not create the required .met file whatever settings I tried so I re-installed it all as I had left the remains of the Weather Center 2 folder so I removed it before re-installing AS2004 with MR1. This still did not generate the .met file even though I have tried to run AS2004 in offline mode as instructed and also enabled .met file generation in Active Radar. I wondered if the installation of MR1 had caused the problem so I un-installed and re-installed just AS2004 base. Same result. I have noticed that not even the .dat file seems to be updating in the Active Radar folder so it seems that Active Radar is the problem. I am loading valid flight plans into both AS2004 and Active Radar. Can anyone solve this please? I do want this feature to work and would not have purchased if I had realised it was not supposed to work.

March 9, 200422 yr Hi Damian, I'm not sure what to make of your response, especially as I did not write what you have included in the quotes! However I purchased AS2004 and have not actually made a flight yet as I am trying to get my problem sorted out first. I'm looking forward to using AS2004 as I am confident that it will work as reported by all the enthusiastic users. But I would be pleased if there is some way of generating the .met file as detailed in my message and in the AS2004 instructions. I look forward to your answer, hopefully with good news. Regards,

March 9, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi all,I have added full FSFlightMax integration in a text build of AS2004. If you'd like to try it, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks all!-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
March 9, 200422 yr Hi everyone, I am amazed at how quickly Damian responded with a personal email offering a possible solution with a new file by email, so of course I requested the file without hesitation. What he sent was a file of a new AS2004.exe to replace the existing one (now backed up just in case) which was easy to install as I did not have to even reinstall the program. I can tell you that it does indeed work after adding/modifying this text to the fsflightmax.ini file located in the main FSFlightMax folder as shown: [ActiveSky]ActiveSkyActive=1ActiveSkyDirectory=C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesActiveSky2004I should add that I run everything on the same computer so it might need pointing differently for users with more than one computer. I also disabled the FS Meteo section in the same file that I had previously used with Weather Center 2 as it is no longer needed. As Damian says in his last message, anyone who wants to try it for use with FSFlightMax can email him for the test file but I think it would be unreasonable to expect the Flightmax radar display to match the Active Radar display as the functions do differ somewhat. Anyway I'm very happy and now I'm just waiting for it to rain somewhere along my next flight to see exactly how the radar displays compare.
