Wind smoothing clarification

Featured Replies

After ASky has downloaded the weather we see the line -'Enter route to enable wind smoothing'Does this mean if we don't enter a route, ie a quick VFR hop, we don't get any wind smoothing? I see from the options page the 'enable wind smoothing' is checked by default.I should say I set normal defaults (get online weather) and did a quick flight (no route loaded) to EIDW in the PSS Dash 8. Nice clouds and very smooth.Hence confusion ;)

Hi Dean,Route-based wind smoothing does not enable until you have a flight plan processed. It needs your departure, destination and enroute IDs in order to do this.Without route-based wind smoothing, you are still taking advantage of the CC winds fix and other enhancements we've made which eliminate a great deal of the severe wind shift problems, but with route-based wind smoothing it can be even smoother. One drawback of using route-based wind smoothing is that all enroute winds are generally forced to the average for your route.. thus you may not see major variations in direction/speed (by design) - this can obviously differ from the actual aloft reports/real data. Some folks (such as I) prefer to keep my winds accurate at all times at the expense of the occasional wind shift, so I turn route-based smoothing off.So many options and ways to use it.. I understand it can be confusing! Hope that helps though..Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg
