Radar Not Working

Featured Replies

Hi folks,I'm a new purchasee of the ActiveSky2004 product and am pleased with it thus far. However, on my flight today I wan't able to get the radar to work other than to display the wind speed and direction. I was flying through an area of rain as was reported by the metar in active sky.I tried to do several things to remedy the problem:> reload activesky with an active plan made from FS2004, as well as activate the plan in the weather radar. I made sure to refresh everything.> cleared the weather from FSUIPC, as well as made sure I had the latest version from schiratti.com> start the flight as it recommends in page 27 in the manual. I have read that one must be totally rid of ActivewxRE in order for things to go correctly, so I made sure I deleted all traces of the old program. I would like to try reinstalling now, but unfortunately I bought the upgrade version for wxRE users, and since that is now deleted, It won't let me reinstall. But thats not really the problem- AS2004 works just fine, my only problem is getting the radar to function. Is this a known issue or something I'm only experiencing? Thanks for your help, Brendan

I just went and took a screenshot of the situation display: the flight plan was successfully loaded, and there was just a green scrolling message at the top of the station with "closest station" weather for KPVD, the airport I was at.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67331.jpg

Hi,Clear FSUIPC weather first, then load weather. You may be clearing out the weather. Also, in Active Radar on the Tracking screen is there a report of precip. or does it say "None".One more thing: how long are you waiting for weather to load in AR?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Yep, precip was cleared by FSUIPC and I selected "clear skies" when I chose my flight. In the report section on the radar tracking mode, the precipitation type was reported as snow in the departure section. Unfortunately, the top section "closest" remains clear, as well as not showing the tops and coverage of any clouds.... I even opened up the radar_export.dat file and saw that precipitation METAR was being written to the radar module. I'll try again in another location, see if that works.

I tried this morning to follow your recommendation to the letter...I started AS2004, started flightsim, put myself into an area of precip, cleared the weather via FSUIPC, refreshed AS2004, went back to FS2004 and waited. Sure enough, the snow began, I waited 5 minutes for radar returns, and nothing showed up on the screen.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67421.jpgOn the tracking view, there is also no "nearest station" being displayed, as was the problem with my previous screenshot. The only difference was in that case I was on a loaded flight plan. The same outcome happens in each case. What could be causing this problem?

Hi,For some reason there is no communication between FSUIPC and AR. What version of FSUIPC are you using? What version of AS are you using? A uninstall and re-install might be in order.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi,I think Jim is right, a re-install is in order. ActiveRadar can't read its station database, so at least one file is missing from the installation folder. To get a new download, please contact us at [email protected]. Jim, please set him up with a new download link for AS2004. Thanks!!-Damian

I will try to reinstall this evening.New FSUIPC, and reinstall WXRE (since for my emetrix version, the old ActiveSkyWxRE must be installed). Then I'll delete and reinstall the Activesky2004 plus the MR1 service update. I'll post my results in a little while.Thak you guys for your support thus far! I am convinced it is not a program flaw, as many others have been using the activeradar module to some great results. Thanks again,Brendan

well, no luck...I took a brand new FSUIPC download tonight from Pete Dowson's page, then reinstalled Activesky and the MR1 service update. I went to KSFM which is reporting some moderate rain and waited 5 minutes. No returns came up...Let me post my activeradar.cfg maybe it has some wrong settings?I'm now running version 1.1 build 90. It might also be interesting if I note that on my situation display, the route line is correctly indicated, but no other airports or labels are shown, even though there are airports within a 10 nautical mile radius. Something seems not to be communicating the data maybe? I checked the export_data.rad file and found that my station identifier was being written to the file with the rain included. Its written to both the export_data.rad in the activesky2004 and activeradar folders (why are there two files?).Here is another screenshot of what I am looking at.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67503.jpg

I decided to wait a little and fly around... still nothing, and the "nearest station" still isn't reporting any weather, although I loaded a flight plan and then loaded it into the activesky dialog to get a navlog. I am also not getting a report of clouds... as you can see, the bottom sector of the gauge reports my departure airport as having rain.another screenshot:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67504.jpg
