April 27, 200422 yr Damian (and the Team),Having had ActiveSky for about a month and a half now, I have to say that it produces some of the most beautiful weatherscapes I have seen in FS! Its a nice programme. However, I have been experiencing continual shutdowns since installation.I have tried everything from uninstalls to re-installs and updating to version 1.1 then going back again. I have used the default FS2004 Beech Baron in various places (with add-on scenery and without it) and have followed the manual to the letter to load the programme, but it continually wants to shutdown with the message "AS has encountered a problem and needs to shut down " I get the option to send or don't send the details to Microsoft.Whilst I really appreciate Jim Skorna who has been helping me to solve these problems, I have not managed to do this. The longest I have had AS running for was about 1 hour before it either shuts down with the above message or simply disappears and is not running anymore.I have initialised AS then left it running (visible in the taskbar) - when I click on the programme to, say, fetch a METAR it produces the error as above and I have to close it. I have managed to process a flightplan (imported from FS) and if I then ask it to print the nav log (need that dat obviously) it shuts down but still prints!Right now, the longest I have managed to keep it running was by just loading it and letting it gather the online weather data (I have ADSL) and then just clicking in the FS window (to return the focus to FS and then AS is visible in the taskbar) - to let it run and do nothing else with it.I have also noted that Active Radar seems to work (CTRL + F12) even if AS has shut down - are they separate programmes and can they work in this way ?I'm getting desperate a little here - AS really takes advantage of the new FS9 weather (I have changed the clouds as the manual recommends) and it produces great weather visually much better - but I cannot keep it running or re-access the main interface without the programme wanting to shut down. Not sure what esle to try - I have FSUIPC registered version 3.2.0.0 - and system is a P4 3.0Ghz CPU, 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM, FS9, WD S-ATA hard disk, Radeon 128MB 9800 Pro video (Omega drivers) on WinXP home with all MS updates to date.Any further help would be appreciated. My thanks to Jim for his efforts on my behalf so far.Kind regards, Lee JamesDesktop Pilot - www.virtualairlinepilot.org Instagram - virtualairlinepilot_leeCheck out my Adventure Videos & FS Reviews on YouTube at VirtualAirlinePilot !
April 28, 200422 yr Commercial Member Hi Lee,Sorry you were not able to get this one fixed yet. Let me see if I can offer up any helpful ideas!First, this is the only report of such a "shut-down" of AS2004, and I feel it may be related to your windows installation of runtime components, visual basic files, or other software. For that reason, I suggest downloading the latest VB6 runtime files (www.microsoft.com, search for VB6 runtime, get the redistributable package) and install them. If this does not solve things, try disabling all your other software until you can isolate which one is causing it.Next, you may have memory problems. There are free memory tester software programs out there (suggest www.tucows.com search) which can tell you right away if there is a problem or not.Lastly, you may want to consider re-installing Windows, in case there is a corrupt file or registry entry somewhere causing problems. Please forward me your "details" from the crash message when you get it next time.. [email protected]. Hopefully this will help isolate it as well.Hope these suggestions help - please let us know how you make out and we will do our best to assist until it is solved! Thanks!-Damian Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies

April 28, 200422 yr Moderator Hi Lee - PMFJI but there is a version of SFC for WinXP but it runs in a DOS box. Easiest way is to START/RUN COMMAND. When you get to the DOS window enter SFC - you'll get the command line options, etc . and you can go from there.I would also consider doing a repair installation of WinXP - doesn't change anything but restores all the system files. You'd still have to apply SP1 manually unless you have it built in to your install CD.Good luck - VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
