July 7, 200421 yr Hello,I have Activesky set up nicely on my computer and have made many successful flights with this addon. Tonight, however, I encountered heavy clouds and my frame rates shot down to 5. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on things I can change to help with the framerates. It works good in pretty much every situation except for heavy clouds. Thanks for the help.I already have the FSW FPS pack. July 7, 200421 yr Hi,I'll have some suggestions a little later. What are your weather display settings in FS, sight distance, cloud draw etc.??What are the specs. of your computer?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
July 7, 200421 yr In addition to what Jim may suggest, I notice that METAR is reflecting some pretty gusty winds. You (and anyone else reading) might want to read the "Advanced Users" document included with FSUIPC 3.30 - wherein Pete describes some FPS tweaks related to wind gusts. I have noticed that gusty winds produce an inordinate amount of FPS drop as well (not that this is what you're seeing, just a possibility) - particularly on the ground. You could always try supressing all gusts and turbulence via FSUIPC, and see if that improves the situation - if so, then look into the options pete describes in that document...Just a suggestion. Let's see what Jim's got for you after you post your specs!Best,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
July 7, 200421 yr Thanks for that suggestion Scott, I will look into it.Jim, my FS weather display settings are below:Sight distance - 80 milesCloud Draw Distance - 40 miles3d clouds - 90%cloud coverage density - MaximumComputer Specs:P4 2.6 GHz1024 MB RAMGeforce 4 Ti4600 graphics cardThanks again for the help,Ryan
July 8, 200421 yr Hi Ryan,Try these:3D clouds always 100%. This eliminates the 2D imposter clouds that are frame killers.Cut back on sight distance. Try 50.Lower your cloud layers in AS to 3.Fog Layer Generation to FalseOvercast Enhancement to False Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
July 8, 200421 yr I was going to post separately on this matter but I will chip here. I assume to do this you have to register FSUIPC in order to avail yourself of these FSUIPC weather options? In general does registering FSUIPC provide sufficient additional benefit over what AS2004 offers for weather simulation to justify the cost? While I seem to be able to run all my various addons with an unregistered FSUIPC, with this latest release I'm reconsidering the matter.Bruce Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened."
