ATIS Not Correct When Starting FS2004

Featured Replies

I've been using AS2004 now for a month or so and really love the way it stabilizes the weather environment. No more popping clouds or instant clearing or overcast! This addon has really improved the overall weather simulation IMHO!One small problem, though. Per the written procedures I execute FSUIPC's "Clear All Weather" from within FS2004 before processing the FP in AS2004 and refreshing the weather into FS2004. At least every third or forth flight the actual weather in FS2004 doesn't seem to match what ATIS is telling me. I can have very overcast skies with 10 kt winds from 272 degrees and a barometer reading of 30.03 in the Metar (overcast confirmed when looking out the cockpit window) but ATIS says winds calm, visibility over 20nm and barometer 29.92. I'll go back and refresh AS2004 but the situation stays the same in FS2004. Also the active runways are based on the ATIS not the actual situation. What gives here? Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a procedural change I can implement to correct the anomaly?TIA for and help or suggestions!DougDell 8250 (3.06GHz/533FSB)1GB Rambus RAM120MB ATA 100 (7200 RPM)ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 4.5)Audigy 2 Sound (latest drivers)MS Force Feedback 2WindowsXP Pro (SP1)DirectX 9.0b

Hi,After the refresh are you giving FS time to fully process the data? I know the sky conditions match, but do the pressures, winds, temps etc.? I don't mean with ATIS, but with the readouts in the plane an d on the screen. Please let us know!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Jim,Sorry for the delay in responding. When I ALT-TAB back to the desktop to refesh AS2004 I wait until the process has completed writing the data to FSUIPC and FS2004 before going back to the sim. I assume that when I then go back to the sim it (and ATIS) will have updated to match the current metar. But when I go into the sim the sky conditions appear to be like the metar but ATIS still reports "standard" parameters. Since I use the PMDG 737 fleet I don't get winds displayed until airborne but when they do display they match what is in the metar. To answer you real question, it appears the environment changes to match the new metar but ATIS never gets there no matter how long I wait on the ramp. The correct reported conditions don't actually change in the ATIS till the flight has begun.I'm not implying there's a problem with the program(s) here because there's always the possibility of operator error :).Any ideas? And thanks for your time!DougDell 8250 (3.06GHz/533FSB)1GB Rambus RAM120MB ATA 100 (7200 RPM)ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (Catalyst 4.5)Audigy 2 Sound (latest drivers)MS Force Feedback 2WindowsXP Pro (SP1)DirectX 9.0b

Hi Doug,You get back to us when you can! One thing to try: when re-freshing AS do not have FS minimized and/or paused. Hit re-fresh and go back into FS in an un-paused condition. Please give that a try. Also, by ATIS we do mean FS ATIS right and not FlightWatch?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I to ohave had the same situation since updating to the mr2 release. Never has a problem before the update. Doug is correct in that no matter how long you wait or haow many times you go back & refresh, FS ATIS will still report perfect conditions, but the sky & wind sock, etc. will show the correct AS weather. What happens is that you are usually told to taxi to an incorrect runway with a strong tailwind. It doesn't happen all the time though!Last night leaving KPHX, there were thunderstorms and lightning, rain, and ATIS reported all clear. I tried refreshing 5 times. Each time ATIS would change to the next phoenetic letter, but still report clear. As I stated above, I have been using AS for 6 months and never saw this until after the update!Rick Zarych

I'm using MR2 like Rick mentioned and I'm also having the issue where it doesn't update, even though ActiveSky says it updated. I have the scrolling text on, so I see it update to the airport weather, but it doesn't change the altimeter or the weather, although sometimes it does work for me.Thanks.

Thanks All for your reports! Looks like there is something not right here. I will test my version this afternoon and get with Damian about this.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Something I found that works 99% of the time correctly, but goes against the instructions for starting AS.Finish setting your fplan, time, fuel/weight, set weather to clear, but do not push the fly now button. Now go and startup AS, and get the weather and refresh, set fplan. It takes longer for AS to update because FS is not ready for flying yet. When AS finishes, go back to FS, push fly now button, and the weather and ATIS should be correct.I have found in the past, that if I followed AS loading directions, weather would be correct, ATIS would be correct, but would have me using the wrong runway, usually downwind. If I started everything as I described, I would then be using the runway into the wind. I think it has something to do with starting FS with clear weather and ATIS chooses the runway to use. When you then update weather, ATIS updates weather, but never changes runways. You could get lucky and be using the correct rnwy.I found this by accident. I wondered why half the time I was taking off with the wind. One day I exited the flight, left AS running, started up the flight again, weather was the same, but was now using the correct runway. Did this a number of times to prove it out on different flights and it makes a difference. The only drawback is that it takes AS about 5 times longer to update because FS is not in flight mode. But it will give you correct weather & runways in use.Rick Zarych

By ATIS I mean FS2004 ATIS not FlightWatch.I'll give your suggestion a go this evening and report back.I appreciate you attention to this. Forget about what I said about how to make it work 99% of the time.....it doesn't work now either. I just completed a flight from Nashville, TN to Charlotte, NC, and the weather & ATIS matched in Nashville on departure.....meaning METAR's matched ATIS and outside. On arriving into the Charlotte area however, The weather outside the aircraft matched the METAR, but Charloote ATIS was telling me - wind, calm; sky, clear; altimeter 2992. Metar called for variable winds, 5 miles in haze, and altimeter 3002, and that's what the weather was outside.I might be going back to the pre-update until the bugs are worked out. I will put up with conditions changing not so smoothly, as long as the weather is correct!Rick

Just flew another flight from Los Alamos to Roswell, NM. Weather in Los Alamos was terrible.....raining & TS's. Automated weather matched METAR & outside weather. METAR for Roswell called for 15010G18 winds and TS's in the area with SCT & BKN layers of clouds. This is what I saw out the window when I got to my destination. But Roswell's ATIS again said winds calm, 10 miles, and clear, with no clouds. This is really getting disheartening. Obviously now ATC is vectoring you to the wrong runway. Maybe it's the aliens in Roswell???Seriously, this has never, I repeat never happened to me before the update. Now it seems it happens all the time, either at the departure location or the destination! Please give any advise....if there is any.Rick

I flew another flight and everything was correct this time. I'm trying to remember if I did anything different or in a different order.I will try and document what I'm doing and in what order and see if I can find a commonality.Rick

Hi All in this Thread,For 2 days now I have been trying to reproduce this situation and I just can't do it. Each time, ATIS voices the correct information. I went through the Revisions document, nothing. I have thought about past posts and e-mails and nothing comes to mind. Is anyone running other FS software along with AS2004?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I'm only using FS, FSUIPC, And AS. Just flew another flight and everything was ok again, but I did notice something. After refreshing and activating the flight plan in AS, I went back to FS. The sky changed from clear to cloudy, but I remembered the METAR said BKN layers & TS's. So I waited a goo 20 sec. and the rest of the clouds & TS's showed up.Is it possible that if you activate FS's ATIS before the rest of the weather loads that somehow since the MR release that FS ATIS gets "locked out" . The only time I was able to clear this, was to abort the flight, reload the flight plan & start over, otherwise the weather is correct but FS never accepts it and keeps reporting clear. As I said before, I've been using AS for about 6 or more months, and this "quirk" has only showed up since the MR release. Thanks for your support, and if I find anything definitive, I will report back!Rick

Rick,Thanks for the update. Now from this post it looks like the key is waiting long enough for FS ATIS to fully experience the AS weather. BTW, it is sure OK to process a flight plan to gather your en-route weather, but AS doesn't absolutely need a plan anymore. Not sure if you knew this!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
