PMDG and AS2004

Featured Replies

Hi GuysI have been flying the PMDG 737NG with the new AS build and latest dll's using WideFS. I came across a few odities with the NG.1. It is necessary to run activeconnector2 each time for AR to connect properly to AS. This problem only occurs if the PMDG 737NG is set as the the default startup aircraft. If the cessna 182 is loaded first weather set then load the NG everything is ok.I dont see this as a big problem to NG drivers as I usually start up this way due to the lack of a main avionics switch on the NG. 1a When the PMDG 737NG is loaded as the default a/c the AR does display a correct wind direction and speed-1 but no cloud returns as nearest station is still 1000nm with a 23kt wind.2. Observation: The PMDG737NG fails to display wind diirection and speed in the ND when below speed below 10 knots and also on ground there is no wind info in ND.3.Observation: The AS weather will not initialise or update in spot view with the NG. Dont now about default aircraft, not tried.I am not personally bothered by this but worth remembering I think. My aim now is to get the wind transitions and smoothing as smooth as previous builds. I really think it is too extreme at the moment.Any other NG drivers out there want to give me a few tips on wind smoothing I would be very grateful. Have you got it smoooth?Thank everyone and especially the AS guys for a great addon.John

Have you got it>smoooth?Weather is something complitely indipendent from the aircraft you're flying.I find that 3 knots-degrees per second is a good setup.Sorry i can't help with AR as i do not use it.

Thanks for the reply Claudio will give try the setting you suggested tonight.ThanxJohn

Hi John,Not sure about PMDG on default requiring a new ARconnector2 session... The only thing ARconnector2 does is copy over the activeradar files to FS9Modules and adds a registry entry for AS2004. I am suspecting that something else is wrong with your AR setup on wideFS...Make sure you follow the instructions in ARconnector2.txt exactly... you need to map a drive on the FS machine that points to the ROOT drive of your WideFS machine (where AS is installed). To confirm it is working correctly, when in AR, you should see the closest station reported and a proper weather readout in the tracking screen. This may require a flightplan loaded/process in AS as well as AR.Hope that helps!

Guys,I'm not quite sure if this was discussed before, but I've got another problem using the latest published Beta and PMDG: When flying on cruise altitude with autopilot set and when there are any weather changes, the nose of the aircraft is going up and down very heavily (up to 1000 feet difference, that means much more heavy than it could be just any turbulances). I have to switch off autopilot and stabilize the aircraft manualy, before i can turn on the LNAV and VNAV again. I think this is not so much a problem of PMDG or AS2004, but of the smoothing functions within FSUIPC. When using the older AS2004 (that handled the smoothing operations itself), I never had this kind of problem. And of course, I already tried many different values for the smoothing function in FSUIPC.Any ideas?AlexBTW: It was even much more heavy when I used FSMetar - which was the reason for me to switch to AS2004.

Hi Alex,Check your FSUIPC option "smooth IAS for external apps". This should be on, and might help things. Can you describe the "shifts" in more detail? Is this the wind shifting around (look via shift-z), the pressure changing (altimeter jumps instantly), or just excessive turbulence? Thanks!

Thank you for your quick response, it's a great job you guys are doing here. I will check these questions asap - it's a bit to late now for detailed testing. For me it's seems like all it's about the pressure changing, but I'll better doublecheck this before posting any false facts. And of course, I will check if I really have put the "Smooth IAS for external APPS" on.Alex

Couldn't go to bed without testing it before. Result: It is not as clear as I'd like it to be, but it seems that it's a problem with the pressure change. I had some changings ONLY of the wind direction WITHOUT changing the QNH - and nothing happend. But then, the wind changed from 341/26 to 318/31 AND the QNH from 1008 to 1011 hPa - and all that bouncing started again. Looks like the problem is the altimeter jumping up and down and the autopilot trying to keep the altitude at the same time. I also checked the options within FSUIPC: "Smooth IAS for external programms" is switched on, and the pressure changes are smoothed by 1 mb over five seconds.Do you think you can help me?Alex

Hi Alex,I suggest changing the smoothing to 1mb over 10 seconds. Does that help?

Hi Damian, will try that after the weekend - and report if it helps. Many thanks for your help and your patience!Alex

Hey Damian, made a short flight from Vienna to Stuttgart without any problems and was just going to report this success - but then this awfull bouncing appeared again. Unfortunatly, I didn't monitor the wind and the QNH before this bouncing started again (I didn't expect it would do so) but I am still beliving it must be a problem with the pressure. As your told me I set the pressure smoothing to 1 mb for ten seconds (and meanwhile I am using your latest beta) - but it didn't help. Let me say this again: I didn't have any problems at all when AS2004 was doing the wind shift control by itself - it all started with FSUIPC taking control over the smoothing. Very strange... Any ideas left?Alex

AlexThis porpoising can appear if you have your load off limits with regards to center of gravity. I also seem to remember that the A/P becomes very sensitive in the pitch axis when flying at high altitudes at low speeds.I think this is more related to the NG than AS2004 to be honest. Maybe a post in the PMDG forum can help you further.Hope it helps,

Oh yes, that's a good idea. Will check my load configuration again and see if it helps. But for me it sounds quite logical: If you have strong winds it will change the indicated airspeed, that might make the A/P trying to get everything right again - and if the loading isn't very well centered (sorry, don't know the proper english term, must sound quite funny for you, doesn't it?) this might end in the bouncing of the nose. BTW: This problem only appears when using a weather programm like AS2004 or FSMetar - but never with the FS Real weather. But the reason for this might just be that the wind is more realistic with this programms. Ok guys, will check the configuration - and report again. Thanks a lot so far!Alex

Well guys,I hate to say this - but obviously I was a bit too optimistic. Changed my load configuration to a common setup some other guys are using without any problems (90 Pax and 2 containers in the front and in the back). During a fligt today from Paris to Innsbruck at FL 370 the problem remained the same: Suddenly the nose was going up and down. Probably I should try to fly a little bit lower, but still it is a very strange problem. And let me repeat this: It's not so much a problem of the PMDG - it is much more about the weather shifts. Any ideas left?Alex
