August 18, 200421 yr Would just like to continue with the updates. I have been noting other users comments but can't say I have encountered the problems reported by other beta 140 users. I will check out the post relating to altitude problem and the difference reported by the 'Z' key option in FS.Weather engine results..stunning.RegardsPaul
August 18, 200421 yr Thanks Paul for the report!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 18, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Paul,Thanks again!Remember, most users who experience NO PROBLEMS will never post here. You are in the minority... But it is much appreciated! We like hearing positive reports too :)Also note that the majority of "problem" reports so far with B140 (or any version for that matter) have in fact been found to not be problems at all. Such is a fact with our complex wx engine. But we encourage all these reports anyways.. after all, this is a BETA and bugs are expected. If a user thinks he/she may have experienced a problem (real or not), we want to know!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 19, 200421 yr Just to give you another 'warm glow' Damian (and team) I too have just had an excellent flight from Athens to Manchester.Over KRH there was one heck of a thunderstorm in progress and although the PMDG 738 was bouncing around a lot (glad I wasn't a PAX :-) ) at no time did the a/p trip nor was there any overspeed. I was using the default settings in both AS2 and FSUIPC.The only strange thing was the METAR report from the Nav log, it was dated 15th not 19th?? BTW I was using VATSIM weather server as I was flying on line. Thanks again to all the team for the continued hard work you have put in to keep improving this software, did you ever think it would become this involved Damian :-) ?
August 19, 200421 yr Hi team, I'd just like to add my thanks and compliments to the pile. I've only flown a few flights with 140, but each of them has been absolutely fantastic! Two nights ago I flew out of a fogged-in KCEC at dusk (had to circle back and shoot an ILS touch and go, right down to the mins, just for the fun of it), then proceeded enroute, broke out at 7000 to the most beautiful sun setting on the overcast layer, cumulous building in the distance. Just superb! No wind flipping, etc... One small question (I think this is going to be one of those "it's not really a bug" deals) as I flew North, looking out over the ocean the overcast layer had two rather large, arrow straight, sections without coulds. maybe 1/4 mile across. Almost as if the overcast were a tile and the texture didn't extend to the edge of the tile, leaving a gap where two tiles met. If that makes any sense....Anyway, just curious. I was so happy with everything else you've done that it didn't even phase me. Thanks!
August 19, 200421 yr Thanks All,Racer, Do you have 3rd party clouds installed?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 19, 200421 yr Jim,Those "slice gaps" are built into FS2004. I've noticed them way back when the product was released. It occurs when a large area is totally overcast. Each of the boundaries of the reporting stations do not overlap, hence the slight gap. It wouldn't be so noticable if the gaps weren't so straight and aligned with the boundaries.Bruce
August 19, 200421 yr Hi Jim, yes, I do have FSW's high performance clouds installed. I had completely forgotten.... I tend to agree with Bruce(reporting stations was the first thing that I thought at the time), because the size seems too big to be related to a particular cloud texture. BUT... what I was observing was about 50 miles out to sea. Are there reporting stations (or more likely pseudo-reporting stations) that far out that would account for the gap? In any case, Build 140 is great! Thanks again.p.s. -Bruce, thanks for the input..
August 19, 200421 yr Hi All,I think you are both right. I see it more with FSW clouds installed, it is a problem in FS, and in areas with few stations, like the oceans. When I see it again I am going to increase my cloud draw distance and see what happens. The oceans contain pseudostations at the moment, Racer!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
August 19, 200421 yr Damien and Jim, As you know I have been loyal customer for years now, this B-140 is what I have been waiting for for long time, you guys are brilliant. Don't know if it can get much better than this, but I am sure it can, especially with the new possibilities of vertical up and down drafts and micrbursts :) I just want to let you know, that have flown many flights now with ZERO annomilies found, even at FL 930 :) great job guys, I am very impressed. Have a great day. GARY
August 19, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi everyone,The problem has to do with overcast, as mentioned, and multiple cloud layers (especially stratus layers) can amplify this effect. Turning off overcast enhancement can help prevent such things, although it also provides less cloud coverage. Another thing is that your available resources can have an effect on how FS draws these "tiles"... if your system is loaded down it seems to occur more frequently. Turning down some sliders and locking your frames to about 20fps can help things in this regard.Hope that helps! Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 20, 200421 yr Thanks Gary,Glad we were able to get your request in, and worked out!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
