Altimeter not updating

Featured Replies

I use ActiveSky 1.924 with FS2002, and lately I've noticed that my altimeter has not been updating. I take off from Phoenix with the altimeter of 30.03, and the altimeter does change all the way to Tulsa. My weather changes OK, but coming into the airport, tower says it's altimeter is 30.03, but the ActiveSky is saying it's 30.15!! I've tried different versions of FSUIPC, and neither has fixed the problem. Any ideas?

The plane respondes to the altimeter that FS says it is, not the pressure that is being reported by ActiveSky

Are you using the free version of FSUIPC?Weather minimums in FSUIPC?Sounds like a communication problem. Try again but first delete your FSUIPC.ini file and rebuild a new one.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I;ts the payware version of FSUIPC (3.30) and it is also registered. I also have the suggested weather setting set also. I'll give your suggestion a shot, see what happens

Jim, Still having the same problem. Recreated the FSUIPC.ini, and reset the settings as stated in the .pdf file. This time I flew from Denver to Louisville, KY. Altimeter at Denver was 29.83. noticed soon after taekoff from Denver, when the weather was updated to match Limon (alt - 29.85) Denver Ctnr was still reporting 29.83. Got all the way to Louisville, and got the update showing altimeter was 30.12, but tower still stated 29.83. Weather conditions were correct (3/4M BR, OVC004), but altimeter did not match the ActiveSky settings, only what the ATC was reporting. I have changed the FSUIPC from 3.30 to 3.12. I had heard on some other forum that there was a weather write problem in 3.30 that was slated to be fixed in a newer version that was in Beta. BTW, I have my FSUIPC registered also. I have even gone as far as re-installed FS2002 and all other add-on apps. This was also a problem in the previous installation of FS2002, so I uninstalled everything and re-installed everything (there were other problems also, not just ActiveSky).Hope what I gave you helps :)

Hi Jim,I had a strange crash yesterday which may be related to this problem of the altimeter.I was flying over the ANDES mountains in South America, using a Project Open Sky 757-200 (AeroPeru livery) at 21,000 feet. The autopilot was set to 21,000 and my altimeter was showing the same. Suddently some mountains came up and I smashed into them which is highly unusual as the Andes, as far as I know, are only about 16,000 feet high at their highest peaks. The altimeter was 29.92 and this seems to show at high altitudes. Which one does the plane's altimeter supposed to show - FS2004's ATC or the Active Sky 2004 readings?I have FSUIPC registered version.

I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo"

I tried another flight last night, same problem as before. This time when I got close to Oakland (29.83), I cleared the weather all together, then refreshed the Oakland weather. The weather itself was fine, but now the altimeter at the tower was reporting 29.92. I could live with the altimeter being the problem, as long as the weather itself (winds, clouds, visability, and precipitation) are all working. Just really seems weird that most of it works, but the altimeter has to throw a fit.

Let me see if I still have 2.975, I'll let you know later today if that works. I know that when I used 2.975, it all worked fine (AS 1.92 / FSUIPC 2.975)

I happened to have 2.975 and flew a short flight with that. Started out at Altus AFB(29.97) and flew to Fort Worth (30.01). Midway through the flight the altimeter changed to 29.94 when I got close to Sheppard AFB (29.95), then when I got close enough to Fort Worth, the altimeterchanged to 30.00, and the tower reported 30.00. All the weather looked ok also. Maybe something with FSUIPC 3? Because I had the same altimeter problems with both 3.12 and 3.30Dave

R u sure the weather is updating? The altimeter "not changing" was the first sign that something was not working correctly for me. After 2 or 3 flights, I noticed the altimeter was not correct. The altimeter would be correct at the departure airport, and then would remain the same the entire flight. Even at the destination airport, the altimeter would not change, it remained the same as the point of departure.I then noticed ActiveSky 1.92.4 would not always update properly, and time out. I tried all kinds of things getting it to work, reinstalled, tried different settings etc.. Tried different versions of FSUIPC with no luck. I then went back to my Windows 98 System and tested it there.. Same problem.. Sometimes it would work, most times it would not..I'm not going to FS2004, I enjoy FS2002 and all my add-ons too much.. Strange no one else sees these problems. Maybe it's because not to many people fly FS2002 for any extended amount of time?...

Hi All,Right now I am taking a flight with wxRE and the latest test version of FSUIPC. There have been no timeouts yet. I'll post back with my altimeter results upon landing. Many people are still using FS02 and wxRE, but these are the only 2 reports of this. I'll do my best to keep at this!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
