ActiveRadar and WideFS Setup HELP!

Featured Replies

I just purchased AS2004 and absolutely love it. Weather looks beautiful within FS. I am running two computers on a network via WideFS, and am able to run AS2004 without a problem. However, I cannot get the ActiveRadar to work properly. Before you think I am completely ignorant, I read the notepad file and PDF document that explained how to set it up, but to no avail. From my FS (WideServer) Computer, I mapped the drive in which AS2004 is installed on my Client computer. When I used the connecter program, I pointed it towards that folder on my client computer, and everything seemed to install well. But when I ran ActiveRadar within FS, all I see is a black square. Did I not map the drive correctly? Or, did I point it towards the wrong subdirectory? Thanks for all of your help!

Hi,Did you turn the power on for Active Radar with the green dot in the lower right corner?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi! Thanks for responding, and sorry for the delay. I don't have an option too. It is completely black; just a black square. I figured it most likely had to do with me not setting it up correctly using the connector program, and that is what I would like assistance with. Thanks again!

OK thanks,I wasn't sure what you were seeing. Sounds like AR is not installed correctly. Do you have an Active Radar folder in your FS04/Modules folder?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Neg, only the .dll itself

When i mapped, I selected the main drive that I installed AS2004 on my client computer. was this correct? If it is easier to communicate instantly, my MSN is [email protected] and AIM Flyntrumpet.Just in case you work that way! :)

No, only here and by e-mail! It was you who sent the email with the exact text as the first post correct? At this point my knowledge of the networked set-up is used up! Time to wait for Damian or other users who run over WideFS.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Yes it was, and like i said i wasn't sure if there was an easier, faster way. I tried to re-map the drives, to the best of my ability, that is what i am not sure of how to do.

Hi,Since you only have the .DLL and not the AR folder, the copy of files did not complete correctly for some reason.Did you get any error messages during the process? Please try this:- Make sure AS is NOT installed on the FS machine. If it is, you'll need to uninstall it- On the FS Machine, map a drive letter to the ROOT DRIVE of the WideFS machine (on the drive AS is installed). For example, Map F: to C: on the wideFS machine.- Make sure networking permissions are set correctly for read and writes (on the WideFS machine)- On the FS machine, browse to your new mapping drive, i.e. F:, and browse through to INSTALLDIRModulesActiveSky2004, and run the ActiveRadarConnector2.exe program.- Follow the prompts, making sure all steps complete OK without error- You should now have on your FS Machine (in FS9Modules): ActiveRadar.dll and ActiveRadar folder- Things should be working nowIf there is a problem in any of the above please advise exactly where and we'll go from there. Thanks!

I give up. Look, what is with this install system anyway.I am no computer expert but I am not an idiot. i followed the instructions to the letter an after 2 hours of trying to install Active Radar over WideFS still no success.I get an error "Program error .... Exiting(verify proper file locations and mapped drive to the root of the widefs/as2004 machine).Running Active RadarConnector2.exe install form FS compuetr. Mapped to c: drive on WideFS computer. WideFS computer running XP pro home. AS2004 installed in c:installdir.Sorry if I sounf frustrated but I am. I have never seen anything like this when it comes to an install program.Chris

Hi Jim, Sorry about my edgy last message. I wrote it after spending a lot of time trying to unsuccessfuly install AR.Yes, AS works beautifully on my second PC and communicates fine with my FS PC. Fine piece of software. I was having a little issue with PMDG737NG and a screen flicker when AS refreshed but it is solved now ("render to texture" button). But AR is still not installed. I have for now given up on trying to install it but eventually it is part of what I paid for and I'd like to try it.Any ideas on how should I proceed from here.Chris

Hi,That's OK. I try to pass over those emotional things and focus on the problems that users have! It usually works, but sometimes it doesn't!!You do need to have the drive mapped correctly. After that, the Connector program should do the rest. Networks are not my strong area and I may need you to write directly to Damian for this one.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi Chris,Not sure why you are getting an error. Something is obviously problematic with the configuration that the connector program doesn't know how to handle. Usually this is because the mapped drive is not set correctly or the permissions are not allowing read/writes (or FS is running - it needs to be closed). At what point exactly are you getting the error in activeradarconnector2.exe? Which step? Are you able to see and select the as2004.exe program properly? Also confirming that you are using the latest build, 142, and running the activeradarconnector2 program (not activeradarconnector, the old one) to make sure we are on the same page? You are not the only one to have trouble with the WideFS AR setup. We realize the install process is finicky and not that user-friendly when unexpected problems arise. We are working on a new way to handle all of this in a future version. But for now I am confident we can get you setup properly. Thank you for all your patience and I apologize for the inconvenience...FWIW, there is a manual method of doing all this:1) Manually copy the ActiveRadar.DLL and ActiveRadar folders from your AS installation to the FS machine FS9Modules folder.2) On FS9 machine, Create the reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareHiFiAS2004Then add the REG_SZ Value name Install_Path and make this the full path to ActiveSky2004 (through the mapped drive) i.e.:F:INSTALLDIRModulesActiveSky2004So the full reg key value is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareHiFiAS2004Install_Path and it is set to F:INSTALLDIRModulesActiveSky2004Please advise on the questions above and let me know which route you took and if things are working now? Thanks!
