August 6, 200520 yr Hi guys was there afix to spinning clouds and what about the sudden changes of wind direction and speed over the atlantic ocean??I thought ASV fixed this stuff, it is still reporting from a wx station 600 nm away, what happened to satelites giving us this info and not only wx radars?
August 6, 200520 yr Hi Joe,Spinning clouds have been with us since FS2002 and we never claimed to fix this, and we probably never will, due to the fact that it is the way FS draws clouds. We are holding our breath on FS10 and this issue. Not sure what satellites are generating data for wind direction and speed from outer space. We have added stations for trans-oceanic flights, but the data is still ground based. What kind of shifts are you seeing?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
August 6, 200520 yr Author Jim What do you mean you added stations where are the ones in real ife unless of course your paying to get this info on the servers.I'm basically getting a shift which changes the degrees example 360 to 270 back to 300 to 360 in the span of 5 minutes and the speeds canged from headwind to tailwind back to my normal & expected 65 kts headwind? Also the degree shift doesn't go from 360 to 270 it does each degree 360 to 359 to 357 etc...
August 6, 200520 yr Hi Joe,From AS2004.5 we added the number of ground based stations some real, some pseudo. When you see a station with a $ sign that is a pseudo station. The shift is smooth at least and possibly because you are right in between 2 or more stations.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
August 7, 200520 yr I am having 180 degree wind shifts over the atlantic as well, and they definitely don't take 5 minutes to complete.Winds will shift from an 80 knot tailwind to an 80 knot headwind over the span of a minute or so. This causes some crazy overspeeds when it shifts to a headwind, and almost makes me stall when it shifts to a tailwind. I was watching the wind indicator on the ND of the plane, and it rotated slowly (took about a minute to go 180 degrees) but "smoothly" i guess.I was watching the Active Sky display, and nothing indicated that the closest station was ever changing, and no winds at all should have been the direction it was pointing. Here's a screenshot, sorry about the width. This was during a relatively stable period of a vague headwind, which is why my speed is normal, but it would shift from a direct tailwind to a direct headwind pretty often. It was pretty crazy.http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~stefan/fspix/wtfwinds.JPGThis is using the latest FSUIPC (non-beta), and happened to occur with the PMDG 747. FSNavigator also confirmed the wind shifts.-stefan
August 7, 200520 yr Hi,Thanks for that. It could have been because ASV just refreshed its data. I would like to take a look at your settings. Please post your ASV.ini file.Joe, if you would do the same I will take a look at yours also! Thanks!

August 8, 200520 yr Hi All,Thanks for those. Both your wind settings look good. I am doing an trans-ocean flight right now and I see the occasional shift. They happen at a pseudo station when ASV refreshes.Short: I would turn TAF Procession Off.Joe: Your supression ceiling is 20000 which means that under this altitude you are not getting refeshed weather. Is this what you want?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
August 8, 200520 yr Author Hi Jim since i only fly high with airliners and only see the airports for about 5 to 10 mins each, i think this is a good setting. Do you have a suggestion?Honestly with this setting at 20000 i don;t notice a sudden change in between the stations on approach which were occuring on final at about 3000 ft, since i had to close stations when landing on a specific runway.Hope this makes sense!
August 8, 200520 yr Hi Joe,That's fine. I just noticed as I went through your settings. That is one thing that makes AS so good: individual users can set things up for what they need and works the best for them! Leave things the way they are.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
August 9, 200520 yr Author I agree all the settings possible make everyone happy, great program :) and support :)
August 10, 200520 yr Taf processing didn't do it for me but I just found out that setting oyur fsuipc settings to 0 5 8 will limit wind shifts to 1 kt every 5 seconds. It has completely resolved the shifting winds issue for me and my a/c can hold steady speed now.-PaulSelf BuiltLiquid CooledAMD 64 3400+2 Gigs Kingston HyperX DDR4006800GTRaid-0 Dual SATA Maxtor 120 Gig Hd'sDual Samsung 997 DF monitors Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
August 11, 200520 yr I have had the same problem since i bought it, but i always thought it was just how it is lol. I get wind's shift over the atlantic alot from a steady 287@60knot to a 150@40knot then back to 287@90knot and so on in a space of 5 sec's. How do i get rid of this problem?
August 11, 200520 yr Hi Mike,If you can, adjust FSUIPC. If not, then try and increase your Update Interval while flying over an ocean. It seems like an update while hooked into the pseudo stations causes this.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
