2 questions about random textures and puffy clouds?

i've kept my textures for the longest time since i was happy with them but is there a specific set or setting that makes the clouds puffier or more depth to them. or are all clouds like sheets of paper, i would like thicker clouds.As far as udpating textures, what do i need to do? Do i just click random and make sure the update tab is clicked for the settings i want updated? And then i have to click submit all right?thanks!

Hi Joe,By hand choose any of the "Puffy" sets. Click on that long Update bar, and then on the Submit button. Do not click on the Random button when choosing textures by hand. HiBy puffy set you mean anything that is say "puffy G or H" or any puffy like "moderate puffy" "whispy puffy" etc will do to?? P.s I don't mean a thick look, i do mean a thick transition through the cloud? Just thought i would clarify what i'm looking for.Update bar "long" one would be the one below mips section right?And if i click random there goes my puffy clouds that i manually chose, that is why you suggest i do it by hand right? And any other set i change i should choose its individual "update" button and then hit submit?Thanks!Sorry it might all sound dumb but I haven't played with active environment for a while.

Hi Joe,The thickness transition depends on the thickness of the cloud layer; that you cannot control. Howdy,I guess what Joe is referring to is the thickness of the cloud texture. Well, there is none because they are 2-D texture sheets that are placed as "sprites" that rotate toward the user. Once you penetrate that 2-D pane you'll either see the next texture sheet ahead of you or blue sky.The MS FS team posted an educational video (actually, a conference presentation) about the FS9 cloud engine on their website - quite interesting to watch: http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/downloads.asp (first of the "Video Downloads").Cheers, Holger

Hi Joe,like Holger and Jim told you and I explain it to you before, the fs2004 engine clouds use sprite for performance. From external view the effect is worst, inside the cockpit is better. Same effect above the clouds, the clouds turn always face to the aircraft, fast aircraft, the clouds will turn faster. Ok thanks guys I assume an add on program cannot add that smoky effect and its really in the design that ms fs chose that we can work with only?It just feels odd as i remember and you guys as well must remember that older flight simulators like fs 95 had 3d blocks of clouds making the thickness have alot of depth to it. However i also do remember wishing for that realistic smoky clouds scene that the Microsoft screen had when launching FS 95, remember that?
