December 22, 200520 yr Hi allASVv6 and ASG installation on a widefs-machine was ok. Also started ASV ok, but I am not able to run ASG. I get a window as the one depicted in the picture attached. Clicking "Continue" only brings a new one, "Quit" closes everything. What is this "security policy" thing? How do I change it so that ASG starts? As instucted I first uninstalled .net version 1.1, rebooted and then reinstalled .net version 2.0. What is wrong?/Esbj

December 23, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,May be related to the system processes lookup we use to see if ASG is already running or not (to prevent multiple instances).Which OS are you on? Are you using an ADMIN account and/or have full permissions?Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 23, 200520 yr Hi,I have .net version 2.0 on both machines. Both are Win XP Home and the user that are running ASG have all permissions./Esbj

December 24, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi all,I have been doing much research in this regard trying to find a solution..It does appear related to .NET code being run over a network. I.e. you have ASG installed on a non-local drive letter or through a network share. The security system is noting that ASG wants to access local system stuff (i.e. ASG installation registry values, process information for redundant instance checking, etc.) but ASG is not being run from the local machine (or a local resource). The .NET framwork security system simply won't allow that (by design). So our real question here is why does the computer think that ASG is being excecuted from a network location? If ActiveSky Version 6 and ActiveSky Graphics are installed to the local machine in a normal local location (i.e. C:ASv6Base), and the normal icons are called which are automatically created based on the installation, then there should be no reason for this. It appears something might be different in these cases. My only guess at this point is that you have installed to a remote location (i.e. server, non-local, network, local but via networking share). This certainly is not how AS is designed to be run, but technically shouldn't cause a problem either. In any case, apparently you can change your .NET framework security settings to allow remote code execution of ASG (from control panel, adminstrative tools, .Net framework configuration).. But I haven't quite figured out how this works yet. Or you could try re-install on a local device (i.e. local hard drive letter C:).We are continuing to gather feedback, test and research this issue to provide a solid way of handling it in the future. Thanks for your patience! We look forward to any more feedback/updates you have on this issue.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
December 24, 200520 yr Hi Damian, first of all - Merry Christmas and thanks for trying to help us!Possible that i misunderstand something in your posting:I have a Notebook (FS-Wideclient) and a PC (FS-Wideserver). The previous installation of ASV was on the Notebook (and partly on the PC).Now i can
December 24, 200520 yr Richard,Run the Unwrap-ASv6.exe on the notebook to get the Setup.exe. This is the full install version and can be copied or moved to the PC for install there. You dont have to run the setup on the notebook as the unwrap has already checked for ASV/E.Trying to run ASv6 on the PC from a network mapped drive would be problematic. .Net have security that dont allow this, and I would think that missing registry settings on the PC would also create problems.Install on notebook for wideFS use is pretty easy as I understand it. Please know that I dont use it myself though.Install ASv6 on the notebook in any directory. On the PC share your Documents and SettingsusernameApplication Data folder and your FS root folder. Make sure to give full write access to both.On the notebook map these shared folders to any free drive letter and make sure it reconnect to them on startup. Also share the ASv6 folder on the notebook so you can access that from the FS PC. You need this to run the ActiveRadarConnector in the ASv6 folder on the NB from the PC.You can also check the ASv6.ini file to make sure the folder settings there are correct.Hope this helped some.JT
December 25, 200520 yr Hi JT,with your posting, i found out where my problem was ...In german there are a saying: "wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil", which means - "who can read, is definitiv in a advantage" (sorry, not the best translation)Ok back to topic:I run the SETUP on the notebook (widefs client). In one of the first screens the installer asked after the FS9 folder OR the folder where ASV should be installed - and that was exactly was i have overwritten. I have inserted the path of the FS9 folder, which was a mapped drive to the PC. The setup finished successfully, but both icons for the ASV was mapped via my PC, means both programs runs from my PC over the LAN. Damian and you wrote, that the security policy of .NET don
August 2, 200619 yr It seems I'm getting this problem too, but I don't really understand Richard's explanation of how he solved it. Could someone maybe help me please? I need really simple and clear explanations of how to install ASG and ASV on a networked machine using WideFS. At the moment I'm just getting the message from .net,"The application attempted to perform an aperation not allowed by the security policy. The operation required the SecurityException. To grant the required permission please contact your system administrator, or use the Microsoft .NET security policy administration tool."Thanks in advance for any help!Tom
August 2, 200619 yr Hi,Please drop Damian a line at [email protected] is more of a .NET error message than a network install problem. For a network install just follow the installation steps for WideFS.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/
