January 8, 200620 yr Hi Jim/Chris,Perhaps you (or anyone else) can shed some light on the following. I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600 video board (256 MB), latest drivers installed and running FS9/AS6 in windowed mode. The haze that determines the visibility range builds up very slowly, line by line rather than whithin the "wink of an eye", as I was used to with my NVidia boards. Also cloud formations are building up pretty slow. Here, too, cloud edges are drawn in a verticaly line-by-line mode. I've tried to switch AA completely off, both in FS9 as well as in ATI's Control Center, however, to no avail. Also fiddling around with other graphics settings didn't help much. I have this Radeon 9600 board quite some time now, but was "woken up" by today's other thread about the Radeon 9600 board in this forum.Any ideas if the above can be solved other than by buying another videoboard? BTW, this is not a new phenomenon in AS6, also in previous versions of AS I was experiencing this. Thanks,Hans Kind regards, Hans van WIjhe Acer Predator P03-640 2.10 Ghz Intel 12th Gen Core 17-12700F 64GB memory, Noctua NH-U9S Cooler, 1.02 TB SSD HD, 1.02 TB HD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3070 16GB Memory, Windows 11 (x64)
January 9, 200620 yr I've noticed the same thing. it's almost like a dot matrix printer.i've never seen this in ASv5e. I have the ATI AIW X800XT.also, what's this "updating Cirrus clouds" thing? it happens right after i jump into the cockpit. the weather won't show until this Cirrus cloud thing is complete.
January 9, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi,Are you refering the the visibility smoothing, which increases/decreases visibility in definitive steps? If so, it is strange that this does not occur with the Nvidia boards. One possibility is TableFog (search MS forum on this, it is an FS9.cfg entry that can be added). I believe this is defaulted off on ATI cards. Perhaps some others might know more about this?FWIW the visibility steps are something I've always seen, using all ATI boards though.Or perhaps this is another thing entirely?Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 9, 200620 yr Author Damian,Indeed the visibility smoothing is affected here as well. With previous ATI boards I had, this issue was solved by activating TableFog in Display.cfg, but alas, for the Radeon 9600 board there is no entry in Display.cfg.Also cloud drawing is fallen victim to this issue, where visibility smoothing is "drawn" horizontally, clouds are being "painted" in a vertical way, in a slow way line by line.I added a section for the Radeon 9600 board in my display.cfg, enabling TableFog, however, no positive result.I will be diving deeper into this matter and if I find a solution or work-around, I'll make sure to post it here.Hans Kind regards, Hans van WIjhe Acer Predator P03-640 2.10 Ghz Intel 12th Gen Core 17-12700F 64GB memory, Noctua NH-U9S Cooler, 1.02 TB SSD HD, 1.02 TB HD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3070 16GB Memory, Windows 11 (x64)
January 9, 200620 yr Author Hi Damian,Thanks for pointing me into the right direction. After I enabled TableFog in fs9.cfg all looks to be a OK. For those interested, here's the relevant section of my fs9.cfg file:[DISPLAY.Device.RADEON 9600 SERIES .0]Mode=1024x768x16TextureAGP=0PanelAsTexture=0TableFog=0 Thanks,Hans Kind regards, Hans van WIjhe Acer Predator P03-640 2.10 Ghz Intel 12th Gen Core 17-12700F 64GB memory, Noctua NH-U9S Cooler, 1.02 TB SSD HD, 1.02 TB HD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3070 16GB Memory, Windows 11 (x64)
January 9, 200620 yr >Hi,>>Are you refering the the visibility smoothing, which>increases/decreases visibility in definitive steps?>>If so, it is strange that this does not occur with the Nvidia>boards.Actually, it does occur with nVidia boards. At least, it does with my 6600GT. I see it all the time. Annoying, but appears to be an FS9 thing. If the visibility distance changes from, say, 40 miles to 5 miles, I'll see this "wall" marching towards me, and at 10 miles, the world suddenly goes grey. As the "wall" gets closer, it cuts off any visible clouds, usually with "flickering" at the edge of the "wall"....jim
January 9, 200620 yr Author Jim,Never had it with my NVidia boards, though. Did you try to add the line TableFog=0 to the Display.Nvidia6600GT section of your fs9.cfg file?Hans Kind regards, Hans van WIjhe Acer Predator P03-640 2.10 Ghz Intel 12th Gen Core 17-12700F 64GB memory, Noctua NH-U9S Cooler, 1.02 TB SSD HD, 1.02 TB HD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3070 16GB Memory, Windows 11 (x64)
January 9, 200620 yr Commercial Member Hi Hans,Thanks for the information!Just to confirm, you added TableFog=0 and not TableFog=1? So in effect you are disabling TableFog which appears to be defaulted ON?Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 9, 200620 yr Author Hi Damian,Yes, I added TableFog=0 and all's running smoothly now. Apart from amending the relevant display section I removed some six orphaned display "sections" related to boards I once had installed. To make 110% sure that TableFog should be disabled for ATI Radeon 9600 boards, I'll enable TableFog again in the fs9.cfg file. Perhaps the old and void settings for previous boards might have been the culprit. Don't think so, though, as the correct display card was depicted in the Options/Settings menu of FS9. Will test the "enabled" setting tomorrow and will keep you posted.Regards,Hans Kind regards, Hans van WIjhe Acer Predator P03-640 2.10 Ghz Intel 12th Gen Core 17-12700F 64GB memory, Noctua NH-U9S Cooler, 1.02 TB SSD HD, 1.02 TB HD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3070 16GB Memory, Windows 11 (x64)
January 10, 200620 yr Author Hi Damian,Further to my yesterday's note. Fasten your seatbelt, it's getting weirder by the minute :=)I ran quite a lot of tests today and there's only a slight difference when TableFog is enabled or disabled thru a line in fs9.cfg. Drawing haze and clouds seems to be a tad better when TableFog is disabled (TableFog=0), when it is enabled (TableFog=1) stuttering while drawing the haze layer and clouds is to be seen. When I disable visibility graduation in AS6's Options, my plane all of a sudden is surrounded by fog. Mind you, not the phenomenon one encounters when Depict FS9 Haze Layer is enabled, but right smack in the middle of a fog covered environment. Unchecking the Disable Visibility Graduation" box again brings me back to the regular state. When I uncheck the option "Enforce Visibility Limits" in AS6's Options, and have FSUIPC do the visibility smoothing for me (checking the relevant option in the Visibility settings of FSUIPC) all is working perfectly. No more stuttering while drawing the haze layer in the far distance, no more "line-by-line" drawing of clouds.Do you have any idea what's going on here? If you need more information, let me know, and I'll be happy to investigate further.Regards,Hans Kind regards, Hans van WIjhe Acer Predator P03-640 2.10 Ghz Intel 12th Gen Core 17-12700F 64GB memory, Noctua NH-U9S Cooler, 1.02 TB SSD HD, 1.02 TB HD, NVidia Geforce RTX 3070 16GB Memory, Windows 11 (x64)

It did not appear to make any difference.Just saw your other post about "enforce visibility limits". Going to go try that one as well....jim
