January 5, 200620 yr Hi all,When I installed AS6 on my other PC (non FS) it obviously does not create the AS6 directories on my FS PC in the modules folder which I guess it would not do unless I installed it on the FS PC? It creates a "basefolder" or something like that on the non FS PC....Is this normal? I know about sharing the folders, so in the install of AS6 do I point it at the mapped FS PC drive to, which is shared or is that no correct if so point it to the below during the install?!X: program files/microsoft games/flight sim 9/modules/asv6 Or am I doing it wrong?Could someone give me an insight to the correct install via WideFS?!ThanksMark
January 5, 200620 yr I have been using Active Sky in all its versions from day one with Widefs so will give you what I have on my system but I will leave the final word to Jim or Damian.First make sure you Widefs is running correctly. If you start FS first and then Wideclient you should eventually see in the FS titlebar "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 - A Century of Flight with Wideserver: 1 Connected"Next make sure you share and map the FS drives mentioned in the setup text. You need to share the FS folder and the C:Documents and SettingsApplication Data, both shares need to have read & write permissions. If you get this wrong ASV6 will give error messages when you run it.On my non-FS PC the only folder I have for ASV6 is Modules; I have no 'Base' folder.Maybe my setup is wrong but ASV6 works fine and I guess the base folder is only there to hold the default textures.HTH
January 5, 200620 yr Hi Dave,So you are saying that when you install AS on the non fs pc you don't have to tell it in the setup to load to the share on the fs pc to make sure it goes into the fs9 modules folder?! I am reading your reply to say that i don't need to do that....?Please confirm how you set yours up in the first place?! Mainly the install directory etc.ThanksMark
January 5, 200620 yr The only thing that goes into the modules folder is an active radar folder and the activeradar.dll file Mark.I just followed the install notes and all worked OK. I should say that I used the upgrade version as I already had ASV5 installed but I don't think that install is very different from the full install.ASV6 is installed in its own folder on the non-FS PC.You have to share the main FS folder on the FS PC and the Application data folder as above. You can map both those folders onto the non-FS PC, I only mapped the main FS folder which ASV6 needs mapped so that it can write the textures to FS. It also needs the application data folder so it can 'see' the extra weather stations.Bottom line.ASV6 is instaled in its own folder on the non-FS PC.That folder contains a modules folders and the Chilkatzip2.dllThe modules folder contains Activeradar, ASV6 & ASGraphics folders and the activeradar.dll file. The ASGraphics folder contains, amongst others, a Original_fs9_Textures folder where it stores the original FS9 textures should you want to revert back to them.Does that help any better?
January 6, 200620 yr Hi Dave,Yes it does help me thanks. So do you have to move that folder active radar folder manually or does the setup do it once it has been shared? IS sharing the folders enough or do I really need to map drives?! I think I did do this install a few days ago and it worked ok and I had to run the ASG program on the non fs pc but it did replace the textures as it dragged the backup ones from my main FS PC so think that should be ok?!Thanks and where is your website?! cannot find the address!!RgdsMark
January 7, 200620 yr To set up Active radar I used the seperate Activeradar connector file Damian produced after some people encountered problems with the main ASv6 program.Again I just followed the instructions and the install went smoothly. You need to share the ASV folder on the non-FS PC and then map a drive on the FS PC to the ASv6 share. From the FS PC you then go to drive that is mapped to ASv6, browse down to modulesasv6. Locate the activeradarconnector.exe and run it. Follow the wizard and the radar will automatically be installed. So if you mapped drive Z: to ASv6 on the FS PC you go to Z: and then drill down to modulesasv6 and find the radar connector EXE file.At the very least you need to map a drive on the FS PC to the ASv6 folder on the non-FS PC and map a drive on the non-FS PC to the main FS9 folder. You also need to share "documents and settingsapplication data" on the FS PC so ASv6 can read and write to it.ASG does run on the non-FS PC and should write the new textures to FS9 and pull the original textures back to the non-FS PC so you can go back to them. The Britannic web site can be accessed by clicking on the graphic in my sig.HTH
January 7, 200620 yr Moderator Hi Dave - Long time no talk to - I'm curious - my main FS pc is a P4 3.4 2G pc2700 ram and a 6800 nVidia card. I generally get about 30fps with most sliders maxed. Using asv6 and heavy dark clouds in a dense area, it will drop to about 10. I have a couple of spare systems and was thinking about setting one up with WideFS but I really don't see what I have to gain. The main PC might not be running ASV but it now has the overhead of polling and communicating via TCP/IP or IPX/SPX. I just don't see any benefit. Have I missed something basic here ( I've done that before) ? :)VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
January 7, 200620 yr Moderator Hi Dave - Things are going well - we still meet for chat every Tuesday & Thursday at 7PM ( California time ) and get together for mp flight every Sat night at same time. Fun.I may have to play around a bit just to see. IMHO, with my system AND the few add-ons ( ASV6 RC4 FSNAV) that I run, don't think I'd see much difference. Didn't see much difereence when I installed them , as far as fps hits, etc. I like using the second monitor for docking the GPS etc. and I'd lose that with WideFS. LOL. I can see it coming - going to wind up running FS on 3 systems with four monitors!Have a very happy New Year!VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpghttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
