January 17, 200620 yr I was wondering how, by looking at the weather enroute and at destination, how one determines if there will be turbulance? Is there somewhere that describes how to read the print out METAR? This would be helpful when choosing my flight level. Also, how is turbulance detected in FS? I have AS6, registered FSUIPC and all sliders maxed. However, I never seem to have turbulance. How is it shown in FS? ThanksBrad
January 18, 200620 yr Hi,It is pretty random in FS and nothing in the METAR is going to tell you. I think in the real world pilots share that info. with each other. The plane sways back and forth in FS. Make sure the Turbulence is set to 100% in ASv6. If this is still not enough, there is a turbulence scale line in your FS9.cfg file that can be increased. The default value is 1.000000 and increasing this can help.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
January 18, 200620 yr Hi,Just to note that the turbulence setting at 100% does a pretty good job on my system. (FS9 turbulence scale is set to default, 1.000000)On clear or light cloud days, I get occasional light turbulence. On dark and stormy days, I get frequent heavy turbulence. Sometimes right from lift off to touchdown. It can get a bit exciting at times. :-) I also notice increased turbulence around mountains, although that may have something to do with the VAS settings, which in my case are VAS Frequency = 30, VAS Strength = 10.As always, YMMV....jim
January 26, 200620 yr As I have noted in previous posts it is common in Australia for the presence of turbulence in the terminal area to be noted in Metars usually something like "moderate turbulence below 5000 ft"- I see it quite frequently. Unfortunately despite the metar you don't get this real world observed turbulence reflected in FS9 it would certainly add to the realism if it was.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." January 26, 200620 yr Hi Bruce,Is this coded into the METAR or does it appear in the remarks portion?Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
January 26, 200620 yr Found an example for you.YMML 260611Z 02021G35KT 9999 SCT090CB 37/13 Q1003 INTER 0611/0911 VRB20G45KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 SCT080CB FM0611 MOD TURB BLW 5000FTYMML 260600Z 01018KT 9999 VCTS SCT080CB 38/13 Q1003 INTER 0600/0900 VRB20G45KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 SCT080CB FM0600 MOD TURB BLW 5000FTYMML 260551Z 36016KT 9999 SCT090CB 38/12 Q1003 INTER 0600/0851 VRB20G45KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 SCT080CB FM0551 MOD TURB BLW 5000FTYMML 260530Z 01021KT CAVOK 39/13 Q1003 INTER 0600/0830 VRB20G45KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 SCT080CB FM0530 MOD TURB BLW 5000FTYMML 260500Z 36022KT CAVOK 39/14 Q1003 INTER 0600/0800 VRB20G45KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 SCT080CB FM0500 MOD TURB BLW 5000FTYMML 260430Z 01019KT CAVOK 39/14 Q1004 INTER 0600/0730 VRB20G45KT 3000 TSRA FEW020 SCT080CB FM0430 MOD TURB BLW 5000FTDont know how AS would read this as there is an INTER variable in those metars wich is mostly used in TAFs.Looks like the weather is changing rapidly at this time and thats why they are used.
January 26, 200620 yr Thanks All,I am not a programmer at all, but the problem may be the fact that the data is in the remarks portion along with other METAR codes. If we filter out the other data, we may also filter out the main METAR data as well. Let's see what Damian has to say!!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6...development.jpg http://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-proud.jpg http://www.jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannersupporter.jpg
January 27, 200620 yr Thanks, saved me the trouble of digging these out. Have flown in and out of YMML many times (as a passenger) and I can remember a lot of occasions when the ride was a bit bumpy!Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened."
