Version 6 Experience

Featured Replies

I've used AS since it first appeared but only recently went for vers 6. I've been using 4.5 up to now. I should say that I use the prog with Wideview so I have the wx view on three monitors. My initial reaction had not been too favourable, in particular AS radar, which I have on my server machine, has seemed to be on a different planet so far as the loaded wx is concerned. This was meant to be the thrust of this post. However, I decided to have one more flight as the basis for some questions. The flt was EGBB to EDDF (with A/soft's mega Frankfurt scenery). The wx looked quite reasonable in the UK, few clouds no more, then I took a look at the A/S radar - it showed ahead lots of cloud and v nasty-looking wx. I didn't pay much attention based on admittedly limited experience, but sure enough as I got about 100 nm from EDDF I ran into the most incredible thunderstorms I've ever seen in FS - the lightning was continuous and awesome; the cloud patterns overpowering and quite severe turb. This condition lasted right up to the app to EDDF. The final into EDDF was to rwy 25L so I got to see the traffic moving on the m/way all through driving rain and threatening cloud. It was quite an experience to see this type of wx on each on the monitors. So, instead of asking questions, I'll simply say many, many thanks for a memorable experience . . . and shut up!!!Bud
